talk and bbm at the same time?
I know with my Verizon 8830 I can't talk and use bbm at the same time. Are there any bb's where you could talk and use bbm at the same time?

I believe the Bold is the only BlackBerry to do that at this time, probably the Storm too. But I know all current models that is a no go.

nick is correct. Only the 3G capable BBs are the only ones that can do this. Since EDGE data and voice are over the same channel.

While it's true you can talk & use BlackBerry messenger at the same time, that's only half of what any right minded smartphone user would do. Personally I would be driving, taking on the phone while messaging & eating my lunch. See, now you know what a true BlackBerry addict would do...
.
Oh, and I forgot the fifth thing I would be doing. I'd be signing the reckless driving ticket while pulled over to the side of the road by officer Bob...heh!

That's different though, as you are using two separate channels. So its not the same & cannot be compared.

If you have 3G coverage at the time of the attempt.

Okay, then the Bold is the only phone where you can bbm and talk on the phone at the same time... that's weird though.

The Storm is on CDMA probably using the EvDO network
As I stated many times before, I will not get another device that is not 3G because I got so use to this feature. I am constantly talking and sending email to the person I am talking to.
So unless the Javelin releases a 3G version, I am not interested.

The weird thing is that in ads aren't they advertising the storm as 3G?~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

It is 3G, the phone is a World Edition. There should be a SIM slot and it is still locked to Verizon. You have to call Verizon and request the SIM for that phone. What this will do is allow you to roam internationally and use the phone in GSM mode.
Unfortunately, you are still tied to Verizon's SIM and you have to pay huge roaming fees. But, you will have 3G and you can talk and email, surf the web etc at the same time.
Only Canada and the States have outdated CDMA technology still deployed. The rest of the planet is GSM.
Actually if you are in Canada, I wonder if you will pick up on Bellus or Rogers if the SIM is installed?

They are, but its different from GSM 3G (at&t and 99% of other carriers around the world) Verizon and sprints 3G does not have actual 3G capabilities such as voice and data at the same time, and the network is not as fast as GSM 3G. Verizon may advertise it as being the best; maybe it does have better coverage than at&t, but technically it is a proven fact that it is not better than GSM 3G (at&t).

when verizon says 3G they are simply referring to the third generation of their network type. which is fast, but does not allow simultaneous voice and data
lte will supposedly be the 4G standard that will replace GSM and CDMA

Exactly, which is kind of stupid considering that Verizon, telus etc. never mentioned 3G until at&t/ Rogers upgraded their networks to GSM 3G. All the CDMA carriers used to advertise; EVDO, 1X, 1XEV and so on. Now they have hopped on the 3G band wagon and are confusing people because the 2 networks are completely different, but they make poeple think it is the same. The networks have different features and their maximum data speed is different. Joe blow sees telus and verizons ads and thinks its all the same.

The current model which should be released in Canada today, will not have 3G.
So, I will pass on this unit and stick with the Bold
