How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

Problem: When trying to re-install an operating system that constantly intializes, Desktop Manager will not recognize the device.

Solution: The following walkthough!

Thank you to Pentace for this excellent walkthough:

FYI this will work for any handheld that constantly initializes.. aka the hourglass of doom.

1. Install the desktop software.
2. Install the handheld software. (If it is a non Vendor software.. exp. T-Mobile. search and delete the "vendor.xml" file.)
3. Pull the battery out of your device.
4. With the battery out connect the device to the computer.
5. Go to Options and select "connection settings"
6. Select USB PIN this may take a few moments since there is no battery in the device. you might even have to select detect device in some rare cases.
7. Select the application loader icon.
8. Select all software you want installed.
9. Proceed to the end portion untill you see the "Finish" button.
10. Very IMPORTANT. do not hit the finish button, instead select the ADVANCED button.
11. Make sure both boxes are checked.
12. Proceed until it asks you if you want to automatically back up and restore. Select DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY BACK UP MY HANDHELD.
13. Once the process starts. take care not to bump out the cord and re-insert the battery. Again on some rare occasions you might have to wait until it finishes saying connect to insert the battery.

THIS MAY FAIL THE FIRST OR SECOND TIME DONT WORRY JUST KEEP TRYING.

If you do not get it by the 3rd time.. download the Blackberry java developers kit and install it. once installed find the javaloader.exe file and move it into the c:\ directory

Once it is under the c:\, go to start then run and type. cmd.exe

After the command prompt apears type in "c:\javaloader -usb wipe" to wipe the handheld

*The reason I have highlighted Step 13 is that this is very important to do BEFORE the DM tries to re-start your device because it WILL NOT re-intialize your device IF THE BATTERY IS NOT IN YOUR DEVICE.

Re: How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

Yeah, I figured that this needed its own post since it's been referred to several times here and I am tired of always going to search through my old threads that I started (Cause thats the only place I know of for sure where it is) and scrolling through all of them to find it...Therefore, it will now have its own space here where it can be quickly found.

Francis, make sure you download the software for your BB, then install it on your desktop, then you will see it in the applications list in Desktop Manager.

You also need to download the handheld software for your BB. What carrier are you on? Find the software here...

Re: How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

Hello babut, welcome to pinstack. If you have tried the above mentioned procedure you also have another option. Download the following program, and it is self explanatory. Choose the option for wipe handheld, then all you have to do is load the OS again. Which can be found at the second link.

Program...http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...id=452&catid=5

OS...http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...s_carrier.html

Let us know how it goes.

That should have completely wiped your BB. Once you have wiped it, use DM to load the new OS. It DM does not connect to your BB, Use the procedure in this thread,

Hope this helps

Re: How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

So I figured out what is going on. I wiped the handheld, loaded the programs, reinserted the battery (when told to do so), restarted. Still nothing but white screen. But with the JL commander, I took a screen shot, and it shows the OS is loaded and working fine. I can even go and make changes to settings and all. So does that mean that the screen is not working? what can i do? I have a 7100V that has other parts broken on them, just not the screen. Could I just swap it?

Question Re: How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

I have a problem, when i plug it in without the battery, it cycles power over and over, sometimes flashing a little no battery sign up in the right hand corner of the screen (i have a 7100t) and sometimes i just get error messages (322,497,499,507,etc...)

i would greatly appreciate any light that might be shed on this issue

nevermind... i got it, the CMOS battery was loose, (had to remove it to flash the OS since JavaLoader didnt work)

Re: How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

I am trying to reload the OS. I get to the last step and get this error text:

A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again.
Device communications error encountered. [A:0x0000000E]

Tried the javaloader with no joy either:

C:\>c:\javaloader -u wipe
RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2005 Research In Motion Limited
Connecting to device...Error: unable to open port

The blackberry device is appearing in the device manger screen. I installed the software mentioned (used your links).

I also tried the JL_cmder (had to install Java SDK). It didn't give an error.

Any ideas...

Re: How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

More info:

The driver DM installed is version 3.0.0.3 from 7/4/2006.

I am trying to follow the instructions to wipe the BB but cannot even get the connection. Getting "No Device found" in DM Options -> Connection Settings.

So... once again. If one continually gets this message:

" RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2005 Research In Motion Limited
Connecting to device...Error: unable to open port"

Is there another way around to wiping the OS?

DM does not connect, Javaloader does not connect and the walkthrough above while good does not work if the USB cannot connect.

OK?

Any ideas?

mrkay, Welcome to PinStack,

What OS is your PC running. If it is the 64 Bit version of windows, that may be your problem, the drivers may not be compatible with the BB. If not, Let's try this:
  1. Start by Downloading and installing JL_Cmder, see that link for instructions.
  2. Download and execute on your PC the latest software for your 7290. See this thread for links to the sofware download site for your carrier, Blackberry OS Software links (by carrier).
  3. Connect you BB to you PC
  4. Open JL_Cmder,
  5. Select the Wipe Option (5)
  6. Follow the instructions in the first post in this thread very carefully,

Let us know if this works.
