I just got a brand new curve from rogers and i find this thing so laggy it is becoming unusable. It was like this with a fresh out of the box install. It takes 5 seconds to load up the profiles menu. Moving the ball up and down shows a good half second or jump type lag.
I feel like i'm using a computer from the 1980s...any thoughts?

Did you delete any unused languages and preloaded movies? Clear your logs by going to ALT+LGLG, set up your memory cleaner in Security settings?
Also, check the RIM Handheld and this forum for other software versions to see if there is one that is more recent than that one.

Did you add another theme or something? Some themes make the phone run slower than it should

I found the Phantom theme was like that on the Pearl, but it isn't available on the Curve as of yet. Try the about suggestions (clearing logs, uninstalling extra stuff, etc). If you just purchased it (under 30 days), the store can DOA it (replace it with a new one). If you go that route, don't let the store give you any crap about 30 minutes of usage, as the DOA policy is 30 days, unlimited minutes. If they're being difficult, get a manager or a RAR\Area Manager involved.
If you want to fight it out with your current phone, try upgrading the OS.
Hope this was of some help to you.

Did u run the setup wizard? That will delete all unused languages. What OS did your device come with? Options/about. Third line down.

I deleted all the themes that I don't use, now my BB is running smoother and faster than ever. (themes takes up a lot of memory FYI)
Also delete apps that you don't use, clear your cache in a regular basis, and also delete messages on your inbox.
Goodluck!

Hi.Thanks for that alt lglg thingy. I had tons of stuff that looked like messages from an alien race. If I don't know what it is, and didn't put it there, I don't want it on my BB.
Could you please elaborate on the options -> security tip? I did not see any option to clean memory.
Thanks!

Did you follow my instructions? You don't need to pull the battery.

I did this, but I do not have the memory cleaning option within the security options. What am I doing wrong? I would love to have this ability on my curve.

after entering the password you have to exit all the way to the Icon screen using esc. key not the red phone key I did that the first time and the Memory Cleaning didn't show up until I exited properly

I'm convinced this is a total scam (been discussed in other forums).

after entering password hit esc button twice (curved arrow next to trackball) then Go back to Options>Security Options>Memory Cleaning>Show Icon On Home Screen. Change to Yes. then the Icon should show up in the Applications screen, or in the Memory Cleaning screen hit Menu>Clean Now
Note: the Memory Cleaning option disappears again if you disable your Password and Content Protection

I must be missing something somewhere because I have tried this numerous times, and still cannot get it to work. I would really like to though. My curve has become very slow over the past couple of days. A battery pull helps a little, but it still isnt running as fast as when I first had it.
Any more assistance?

4.2.2.89 is what I have running right now. Where would I find info on an update? I am still quite a bb noob.

Anyone have any advice on how to get this to work? I would rather not have to do a wipe of my curve.

1. Clear the logs (alt+lglg) like Erica suggested
2. Upgrade your handheld O/S from 4.2.0.89 to 4.2.2.186 (the current, I believe). .186 fixes some things and should be the preferred O/S at this point.
3. Run through set up, remove unneeded languages. (reports to speed up device).
..a. From handheld: (navigate to)
..b. Home, BlackBerry Setup, Setup Wizard, (follow prompts), on pg 2 of 12, select only English (United States), page 4 of 12, select only English and English (United States) - remove all other languages when prompted. confirm to Reboot handheld when prompted (reboots on its own).
4. Remove unneeded themes or don't install additional themes either.
5. Remove Push To Talk (PTT) using either the .alx file method or use Javaloader (I prefer using Javaloader). PTT continuously runs in the background consuming resources and makes UI sluggish feeling when I initally tested the device.
..a. Installation of Javaloader http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-jl_cmder.html
..b. Pinstack information about using Javaloader to remove PTT http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...rid-ptt-2.html
..c. Procedure I used:
....1. run install.cmd from the archive
....2. open Command Prompt to C:\Program Files\jl_cmder\
javaloader -usb erase -f KnJCDE.cod
javaloader -usb erase -f net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod
6. Stop storing lots of pictures, ringtones, songs, etc to the device memory. Stop installing 3rd party programs, and/or leaving apps running the background.
7. If the above fail to alleviate the symptoms, do a "Delete Prior" on whatever messages you have the most of:
..a. your phone logs (Messages, then alt+p to view)
..b. your sms messages (Messages, then atl+s to view)
..c. your email (Messages)
Doing a "Delete Prior" on your email doesn't remove the messages from the server as a "Safety feature". So you are OK. It simply frees up memory on your device.
