Here is my small contribution to the community.

After trying many combination I have finally an ATT curve working with my T-mobile with all themes unlocked and no Push to Talk.

PTT is useless for me as for many. Therefore you can free some memory and have your curve run faster.

Files below were tested with O2, Att/Cingular and Rogers latest OS.

Download, unzip and place both files in :

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files

File blackberry.alx will unlock all themes

File platform.alx will remove PTT

Once you have installed both files you need to remove vendor.xml from your pc:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\vendor.xml

Then connect your curve to the PC and launch Desktop Manager.

If no message is shown during synchronization then launch Application Loader and simply press next a couple of times.

Your device will reboot automatically. Unplug after reboot and enjoy your new themes.

***PLEASE NOTE***
This method works for some, others it DOES NOT. If you decide to use this method, and it doesn't work, here is the fix (if you receive app 200 error after installing OS)

1) uninstall the OS that you just installed, from your PC - in add/remove programs.
2) reboot PC and reinstall the OS again - to your PC
3) edit the blackberry.alx file using this thread/how to

to delete the ptt feature, simply follow THIS path exactly (AFTER you install the OS back on your PC) and delete the file.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8300-v4.2.2.114_P2.4.0.53\Java

the digits in red may be different, but as long as its the 8300 OS you will be fine.

Does the blackberry internet browser work with this? I'm on O2 os and on Friday i tried with Rogers and T-Mobile Germany and didn't have it. Was I doing something wrong?

Where do I copy to?

Reinstall your Blacberry software suite and then try again.

Can I copy to another folder to get themes and rid of PIT?

Where are you looking for the shared folder? If you installed the handheld software, you will have the folder. Did you execute the file or just download it?

How about after loading the OS, after you reload the OS on your PC you'll get this folder.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8300-v4.2.2.89_P2.4.0.39

You should delete the vendor.xml from here
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

I have no shared folder either... the same situation as BRGFather. I have everything installed correctly... any help would be appreciated.

I repeat, if you have correctly installed by executing the downloaded Handheld software exe file, you will find the folder in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared path. If you do not have the shared folder you have not properly executed the handheld software file. Desktop manager is not the handheld software.

Are they 'shared' by default since most of the other folders in the common files folder say shared (for example, Microsoft Shared, Sonic shared) but not the RIM folder.

This list is indicative of a correctly insstalled desktop manager. What is the complete filename for the handheld software you installed?

liltiki - as rcbjr has noted repeatedly, you have download the desktop manager for your device, not the operating system.

" Can you help this newbie out with what the Handheld Software is? I have the install disk from ATT/Cingular in my computer and don't see anything other than the Desktop software. I am not familiar with the Handheld Software - where to download it, what it does, etc. It seems that this is the 'missing link' in this thread right now?

Does this open up the bb browser on the tmobile network. I have tried the O2 and after time I start to loose my created folders and everything in them. I need some tech support for bb browser help! (SOS). I tried germany os but get no browsers, uk os and the same, at&t only tmo browser
