How to on Installing Blackberry themes (scan this thread)

how to install blackberry themes using desktop manager
.. download theme/.zip file to pc
.. extract .alx and .cod file
.. plug in blackberry to usb cable
.. launch desktop manager
.. double click application loader
.. wait for initialization
.. click add, go find where you saved .alx and choose
.. click next and run thru wizard
.. bb will reboot after install

troubleshooting
you must have the newest version of desktop manager installed on your PC, along with the device OS, specific to your device. (see blackberry website for downloads)

most common error: ‘no additional applications for your device found’

I can give it a shot. It would be the same for all BB's with 4.1 right?

How To Install Themes on 4.1 OS

Method 1
Point you Blackberry browser to http://mobile.blackberry.com Theme click the link for 'Themes for 4.1 and higher devices' Click the 'I accept" after reading th T&C. Now you should see a page that has all the themes that are available for your device.

Method 2
Downloading themes created with Plazmic. If you want to create your own themes please check this THREAD out to see what you need to get started. First you will need the Plazmic theme reader. It can be downloaded HERE along with other themes from Millena Studios. Next install your theme via DM or OTA. Once the theme has be installed sucessfully, reboot your device. Now to to 'Options' then 'Themes' on your handheld. You should see an option to activate the theme. Click on that and you should be all set.

For all true 100% newbies I recommend prefacing it with steps to check for 4.1 and at least a link back to the instructions for installing that for those out there who dont have 4.1 installed yet. Otherwise, it may seriously confuze them when they follow the steps and it doesnt work coz they have 4.0 and don't know.

What problems are you having? How are you installing them? Have you d/l the right theme reader?

I have been trying to install themes and ringtones along with u. I have Plazmic and 4.1 and isn't working either. How can be sure or where can I get the readers that u are talking about. Also, I need ringtones I haven't been able to do ringtones either. I have only had my BB for 2 days so I am 100% new. Help a BBB out! (BlackBerry Brother)

How are you trying to download them? OTA or through your pc? You can download both theme readers HERE. And after you d/l a theme, make sure to reboot your device. If you are installing them thru DM App Loader, it should reboot the device for you.

As far as ringtones go, I have d/l'ed a few. I just point my BB Browser to http://inevitabletruth.org/blackberry/ringtones/mid/ . To d/l them you just click on the one you want, it will play for you and then you can save it from there.

I get an error from that sight, but it works from my computer. That happens from alot of other sights also. What do u think could be the problem. Also, how do I reboot my BB. I checked all through my instruction book.

I am getting the following error message: "No additional applications designed for your device were found "when I am adding themes to my BB 7100t. What does this mean? Is there not enough room?

It also deletes applications that I load onto my BB. How can I get all the themes I want and keep all my applications? I want to load the following themes:

GM Variant
GM Variant List
GM Variant List 7100
Walnut Wood List
Vista 7100
Gunmetal
GM 7100
GM Variant 7100
8700 Style for 7100
GM 7100

No additional applications designed for your device were found - usually means the PC is not finding anything else that will go on your phone. It could mean what you have is meant for another phone, i have a 7100 and it is for an 8700, or you might already have it loaded to your library to pick from. I have done the later many times.... and yelled at the PC for not working.... then felt really sheepish when I realized I was the problem.

I had to uninstall all my themes (except the ones I got with the phone and the ones I got when I upgraded the OS) to be able to get that message to go away. I got the following to reload: Gunmetal, GM Variant, and Vista 7100. I would like to at least have a Walnut theme if I can't get the others back. How many themes can a BB hold?

guys, i just got my BB 7290 today. im already on the rampage of trying to install themes. i've installed plaznic and installed one theme. but i can't seem to load the theme. you just go to Options>themes, right? or am i just plain dumb??

this is my first time using a BB btw. also, the theme has already been installed on my BB via DMapp loader.

You're doing it right. Just make sure the theme is in Themes, not Applications, or it won't load. I had this happen several times. If it's in Applications, delete it and reload it to make sure it ends up under Themes.

So I have managed to download some of the themes, but how do I install them on my blackberry? I assume I have to put them into a special directory or something, but I can't find any info on this. Can anyone help?

i just got the bb 7100g and i am tryin to put themes on through my dm but i have 4.0 can someone please help me out

With 4.0 you are more than limited as to what themes you can instal. Try looking here, this includes the only themes I know of that will work with 4.0.

Or you can upgrade to 4.1 with instructions listed here. Once you have done that, all the other themes on this site made for your model of phone should work.

Either way, you want to go to your application loader, click on add, and then select the .alx file for what themes you are trying to load. For the themes that require 4.1, they also require the Plazmic Theme Reader be installed as well. It should come in the ZIP file with the themes themselves and you only need to instal it once.

ok so ihave been tryin to download themes via my dm and the themes goin into my applications instead of themes.....i have removed them and tried to reinstall the themes and they keep goin under apps i have trie atleast 5 times anyone know what could b wrong

Yes, it sounds like you are using themes made for 4.1 and you have 4.0. They will always show in applications, but should of course show up in themes as well...

Below are the themes I was pointing to in my previous post that I know to work on 4.0. All other themes are made for 4.1 and require the Plazmic Theme Reader be installed as well.
