cheap?

i was in my local cingular store today and i glanced up and saw the 8800 sitting next to the pearl and i was like woah...it looked like you could just snap it in half...the buttons look so cheap they look like they are about to fall off...why did blackberry make the 8800 so cheap looking? the trackball looked like it wanted to fall out...it was heavy...the screen didn't look that good

Re: cheap?

I switched over to Cingular from Verion today and picked ap an 8800. For what its worth I like it. The keys on the keypad are bigger and easier to use. I like the overall look. Still getting used to trackball, I was pretty comfortable with the trackwheel but I don't think its going to be much of a transition.

Re: cheap?

You have to also take into consideration that Cingular Demos are REALLY cheaply made...

I have a blackjack on my desk waiting to go bac to Cingular. I tried it and hated it and am now back with my Pearl. I think it feels less cheap than the BJ.

Re: cheap?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~Ive been using the 8800 for the last two days. This device is really nice. Nothing cheap about it. Size is good if your a qwerty fan. Track ball works awesome too. If your an 8700 fan then this device is totally for you. Give it a chance and it will definitely grow on ya. Keep the faith BlackBerry nation!

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~well I don't like the Q in general, blackberry usually is known for tough devices and reliable and I hope they can keep up with being tough they still are reliable

Re: cheap?

Oooooooooh, I got my 8800 about 5 hours ago. I had a treo 680. I don't think the 8800 is cheap. I had never used the trackball before, but it is really nice. The media player seems to be slick. Now I understand what a crackberry is!!!

The pearls lite build is one of the things that attracted me to it. Its not big and bulky and ugly like other smart phones

Re: cheap?

I had the Pearl for a few hours until I swapped it for the 8800 on Monday. I can say that my 8800 doesn't feel cheap at all, but I did feel that way about the pearl I had.

Re: cheap?

"Looks cheap"? That's a dubious method of assessing a device... much like gauging durability by how a device "feels". I've heard the same thing said about the 8700c when it was new but mine has survived several drops on concrete. "Look" & "feel" don't really mean much.
