    The Beer Lounge

So I'm doing my usual zombification in front of CSI on Spike tonight.

Its Thursday night, the boy is at a birthday party. There is a specialty beer store on the way home. I grabbed 3 beers I have never had before.

Currently enjoying a Corsendonk Abbey Brown Ale

    Waiting in the wings:

    Julius Echter Hefe Weiss Dunkel

    And the finale:

    Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel

Didn't realize they were both the same style until I got home. But boy they look good.

Then I am guessing you probably won't like the discussion.

Loosely interpreted, Hefe Weiss Bier is Yeast with Beer. This style is meant to be served with the Yeast still in the beer. Most other styles (including Domestic pasteurized, filtered beers) separate the yeast prior to serving. Basically cloudy beer when served.

The Belgian Abbey was excellent. Now hanging out with Julius Echter now.

    Re: The Beer Lounge

i also got my girlfriend hooked on Lindemans Framboise Rasberry Lambic beer
I'm mean sure, its okay... too girlie for my taste, but still a beer technically.
Here's there kicker. to open it, you have to perform a mission impossible task.
Peel the foil from the top (like champagne)
Pop the metal cap (like normal beer)
    Then remove a friggin cork.
Too much work and of course when my girlfriend wants to drink it,
guess who gets to open each one......me

How is it pronounced? I noticed that everyone adds an n and says "Heffenweissen". But there's no n. It sounds cooler but I hate pronouncing things incorrectly..

The above commentary is for entertainment purposes only. If this was actual joke the tone you just heard would have been followed by emergency response information. It's supposed to be fun people.

Hefe Weissen is pronounced "heffy vizen" more or less.

Both are excellent. Lambics are definitely a unique experience if you ever have the opportunity to try them. I like getting a Raspberry or Blackberry Lambic for after dinner for my friends who "only drink wine". They are always amazed at how good it is.

I also highly recommend this Grand Cru if you ever get the chance:

Trust me. Try a Lambic or Grand Cru, you will change your mind. You may not be a total convert, but you'll be amazed its considered beer, not wine.
