    Moving advice needed

My sweety is soon to be moving from Tuscaloosa, AL to the San Jose area for her psych residency at the Palo Alto VA. We're not too well off for cash, so we're looking to save money however possible. What services have you folks used? Right now our best quote is from Roadway Express for around $1600, and the next best offer is around $2400. I know going from Alabama to California isn't going to be cheap no matter how you slice it, but is there a best way to go about this?

$1600 consists of? Are you moving from an apartment or house? How about selling your furniture and such and start over in CA? Either way moving ain't cheap.

Uhaul out of the question? I moved my mom TWICE from atlanta to tulsa and back and we never spent NEARLY that much. Cost a lot more elbow grease but it saved the green. Get the biggest truck you can find an filler up! BTW I've been to Tuscaloosa, I'd move too.

Is that quote for full service? If so ask for a discount if you pack your own boxes and just use them to load and drive.

really i did, i would have gotten it cheaper too if i didnt underestimate the amount of space i was going to use.

and as for the uhaul, they wanted 1500 plus gas, and i would have had to ship my car because the car i had at the time could not be put on one of those pully thingys. unless i got a flat bed and that would have been even more..

what i paid for was just them driving and their truck. I had to load everything and they came down to the new house with my things. everything in tact too. if we ever move out of state again we are gonna use them again

Join the military. After you return from Iraq three times, they will pay all of your moving expenses.
