    Re: I Remember When...

I remember when.....we survived being born to some mothers who smoked and/or drank while they
    carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get
    tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured
    lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode
our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took
    hitchhiking .

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air
    bags.

Riding in the back of a van - loose - was always great
    fun.

We drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a
    bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE
    actually died from this.

We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but
    we weren't overweight because......

    WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back
    when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the
bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels
on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound,no cell phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found
    them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from
    these accidents

We played with worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us
    forever.

Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we
did not poke out any eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang
the bell, or just yelled for them!

Local teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn
to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard
of.They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors
    ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new
    ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we
    learned

    HOW
    TO
    DEAL
    WITH IT ALL!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our
    own good.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't
    it?!

    1. Roller skates were clipped on to your shoes and tightened with a metal key.
    2. Friday Night Videos and (later) Headbanger's Ball made you feel part of something bigger than the small town you were growing up in
    3. At various times Miami Vice, Milli Vanilli and Alf made you wonder WTF were we thinking?
    4. We had a president that (for all his failings) made you proud to be an American (thanks Ronnie - RIP)
    5. Blackberries were for pies
    6. Phones had an actual dial (I tried to explain this to my daughter but I don't think she believes me)
    7. A fight at school never ended in gunfire or hard feelings
    8. San Franciscos and Sticky Fingers were brands of jeans
    9. Learning to type meant on an actual typewriter
    10. Sex wasn't potentially fatal

    Re: I Remember When...

    1. 7 to 11, was open from 7 am to 11 PM!
    2. Nothing was open on Thanksgiving, or after noon on Christmas Eve till the day after Christmas.
    3. There were only 3 channels, 4 if you counted PBS.
    4. As a Child you WERE the remote control for the TV, ( go put the TV on channel 7)
    5. we got our first color TV! ( I finally knew the difference between the Skipper’s, and Gilligan’s shirts!)
    6. We could ride in the back of my dads Pickup. No camper, no cover, no worries!
    7. if there was a dog in your yard growling or threaten your family you could just shoot it.
    8. Hunting on someone’s property only involved knocking on the door and asking if it was OK.
    9. People were polite to other people, because that is the way we were raised.

In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were REAL men, women were REAL women, and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were REAL small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.

    Re: I Remember When...

I remember when gas was 29 cents a gallon.
Gas stations pumped your gas, cleaned your windshield and checked your oil
    There were no household computers
    There were no Microwave ovens
The remote for the TV had a horrible clicking noise when you used them, before that you had to get up to change the channel
Having to register for the Draft at the post office

    ..and a million other things..

    Re: I Remember When...

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I feel old now.....

I can remember about 95% of all of the above. And the really sad thing is I remember it AFTER I started school. Man!

I remember when a Commodre 64 was the latest greatest PC you could have!

I also remember my parents telling me I couldn't get a Nintendo (the original NES mind you) because they were too expensive. And they would be out of business in a couple years anyway from copyright violations (my stepdad was the bright spark who told me that one). HA!
