    How do I go about this?

    Im throwing out a 7 year old PC. Do I just format the hard drive? I know obviously you want to make sure nobody can get any info off of it, but im not exactly sure what to do.

    Formatting it actually does not erase it.. You should really find the manufacture of the hard drive and do a hard format, you can download it from support website. There are common programs that can do that as well, if you set it up as a spare drive.

    Or you can use a hammer and a really big magnet
    It takes many professionals versed in many different area's to help the masses, I am just a single drop in that pool.

    Yeah, get a nice set of small screw drivers, probably some torx too and take every last piece apart. The platters inside that data is on are silver and really shiny

    ... we likes the shiny things...

    ...or you could get Eraser from tolvanen.com (free) and overwrite the whole thing and then donate it to charity and take a write-off on your taxes for 2008.

    I had a picture of what I done with the old drives when we changed pc's in work but cannt find it. I drove over then with the forklift and then juimped on them a bit, data erased!!!
