    Handgun Owners: Help Me Decide...

I am currently thinking about buying myself a handgun. I will be using it for home defence, but more realistically for fun at the range with my buddies. (because it would be no fun to have to actually use it for home defence, but the peace of mind that it's there is great)

I think i've decided on 9mm and am torn between the Springfield XD-M and the Smith & Wesson M&P.

Anyone have any advice for me??

(yes, I know the lounge is all but extinct, but I thought a fellow stacker might be able to throw an opinion out!!)

Actually I'd look into sig sauer for a weapon. Or Glock (they never jam) but out of your choices I'd go Smith and Wesson

I'm with Ice. I own two Sig Sauers, one in 9mm the other in .45. A little pricey, but the best production handgun made. I've had about all of them. And of the two you mentioned, the S&Ws are nice handguns.

I would go with Sig or HK but would go .45 not 9mm.

Personally I have a Colt Combat Commander 1911 model .45. I love it. Do some research, goto a gun range. See what works better in your hands.

For a first time user.....probably nothing beats a double action revolver like a Ruger in 357.....practice and plink with 38's then a little more practice with 357. Easy to use, dependable, ammo is relatively cheap, no safeties or hammer drops to play with, etc. Having said that.....my personal CC pistol is a Kimber CDP Ultra in 45acp......love it.

Nice....I take it then that the CDP is milled from a billet of steel and not cast?

Not 100% sure, but I think so. I remember helping him program the checkering on the slide, so I would assume they machine it from solid bar stock.
