I'm curious as to how many people that have high definition televisions are considering a new high definition format and which one you're considering.

I saw a demo of the Sony Blu-Ray DVD at the SonyStyle store in Orlando. It was impressive, but if you have a big LCD TV and are sitting far enough back, you really don't notice too much of a difference.

Isn't the new playstation 3 going to be on that blu-Ray format. I heard thats why they pushed the release date back. It's irrelevant after a few years. Remember those big laser discs and laser disc players before DVD's?

Yep. PS3 is on Blu-Ray since it can hold 28GB of data per disc, which is 6x more than the current single layer DVD.

I remember those laser discs!! I never had one, but I remember seeing them

I think we are gonna go Blu-Ray soon, we were actually talking about it the other night. The only down fall right now is the price of the player

Yeah i heard its ridiculous. But that means all our favorite movies will have to be switched to a diff. format. To expensive and to much trouble. Re-buy my whole library. No thanks.

    Re: Blu-ray or HD-DVD

PS3 was always going to have blue ray, but xbox was ment to have hd-dvd. Hd-dvd is limited by about 50gb, whereas blue-ray is currently 50gb and can be expanded further. But there are 1 or 2 companies releasing blur-ray/hd-dvd dual compatible drives already so it shouldnt matter, its another dvd+ or dvd- thing where they give up an do both. Dont think im going to re buy anything as by the time i get high def il have a 24 meg adsl line so just watch everything as live stream at hd quality accross that. once someone makes the system marketable, other than for porn. lol

    Re: Blu-ray or HD-DVD

The video player I saw in Orlando was $999 and the movies were about $25 each. They said only a handful of movies were out in Blu-Ray format thus far.

I'll just wait until they put movies on a computer chip. That way they won't scratch as easily.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~as far as having to rebuy.old titles that's not really nessasary because both blu-ray and hd-dvd players will upconvert any standard dvd up to 1080i but remember everyone that this is a format war like the one between vhs and beta back in the 70's
