I just moved from BIS to BES and had a question.

Whenever I send email as "plaintext" with no attachment it automatically attaches a winmail.dat file

    How do I stop this?

So far I haven't found much helpful information. One place says to wipe your phone and reinstall the OS however I'm not sure if such a drastic step should be taken immediately. Lets see if anyone else knows anything.

Hah! JD beat me to it. Here is another link from blackberry.com too

A winmail.dat file is attached to a received message instead of the original attachment

The 1st look says it only applies to outlook / exchange 2000 and lower. I'm using Exchange 2007, and I don't even have Outlook installed on my desktop, I just use the OWA and my BlackBerry. The 2nd link says it only applies to BIS and not BES.

It's really strange... If I send mail from OWA it doesn't send the attachment, but email sent as "plaintext" from the BlackBerry does send the attachment.

so wait just to be clear when you send an email from your blackberry to another user they get the winmail.dat file?

If so check out this information on your Exchange server. Especially the part Configuring the Internet Mail Connector (IMC)
