    Upgrading from 4.0.4 to 4.1.4

Hi all, new here and my first post so bear with me

I've been tasked with upgrading our BES server from v 4.0.4 (Bundle 7) to 4.1.4 - I've had a read through this site looking for known upgrade paths and problems but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

This is our setup at the moment, BES running on Win Server 2003 R2, database located on a seperate SQL 2005 server (backed up on a daily basis). We are running Exchange 2003.

We have approximately 22 handsets running versions ranging from 4.1.0.351 to 4.5.0.52. I haven't informed the users of the upgrade yet so that'll be fun

What's the best way to upgrade to the latest version? Is there any need to install service packs before hand, will I need to upgrade all of the clients etc?

    Any help muchly appreciated

Hi knotty, thanks that was very helpful.

Quick question about upgrading, it says in the pdf to copy the log files from the current BES server and then delete them before carrying out the upgrade. Do these log files need to be kept? At the current time, our log files are taking up 6gb of space going back to October 2007 but if these could be cleared out on a regular basis I'll add this to my ever growing list of jobs

After the upgrade they wont be needed with the new version.

Zip them and burn to DVD if ya want to.

Here is a nice way to zip them up.

    Cheers again

I've downloaded that zip file and see how that copes tonight

I must admit though, I wasn't trusting enough to turn on the auto deletion in the batch file ... have you used that and did it work ok?
