    Synchronization of calender from 8830 to exchange

    Advertisement

    Hi Guys,

    We have recently started using BES and Blackberry 8830's with little to no trouble at all. All data, emails & contacts flow from peoples outlook to phone and vice versa, however outlook calender information only seems to sync from outlook to the phones only. If people create a meeting on their phone it never syncs to outlook, however it does create the below warning in our exchange servers event viewer.

    I can't find any info on what this means though

    {Email Address here} Synchronize() failed: ERR_FAIL, Tag=31985

    We are running Exchange 2003 & BES 4.14.19

    Thanks
    Lance

    this issue is almost always due to incorrect permissions or cdo.dll

    verify cdo.dll versions match on exchange/bes

    Bes is actually installed on the exchange server. I have checked all the permissions I can think of and the BES account seems to have everything it needs.. I tried giving it Full rights for everything on my AD account but that didn't fix the issue for me.

    Any other Idea's ?

    Hi,

    Have been through them all and all is fine, except for the cod.dll as the BES server is installed on the exchange server there is only 1 cdo.dll however, its currently 6.5.7651.61 from SP2.

    As far as i can tell its the latest version so I'm still stumped (

    Thanks heaps for the help thus far Kentrg.

    Did you install BES on "Administrator" account?

    Two things pop to mind.
    1. kentrg is right, you should have a besadmin account as your service and mapi account.
    2. Go to the user's account in AD and make sure that permissions are propagating from parent.
    It is under security| Advanced| a check box at the bottom.

    restart the BES sevices through Blackberry manager then wait 30minutes to test again.

    If this doesn't do it look at the log files "magt".

    Hi,

    Yeah, I installed it under an account called Besadmin and all the sevices do run as besadmin. I checked and it is set to propagate permissions.

    grr its getting really annoying :/ wondering if I should reinstall Bes onto a whole new box incase its something funny happening with the fact that BES is actually on the exchange server.

    This definitely sounds like a permissions issue. Although I have seen an error similar to this be due to the firmware version on the device can you verify that the version is relatively new?
    Also update your BES, it should be 4.1.4.26.

    What is happening is that the besadmin does not have permissions to add an entry to the calendar.
    Log in to a box as besadmin and use outlook to try and create a meeting in someones calendar.

    What is in the magt logs?

    So its definitely a permission issue but I really just cant figure out what is missing. logs below.

    [30001] (02/12 16:01:48.603):{0x26F0} CDOCalendar::Initialize - Code = 80040705, WCode = 0505, Code meaning = IDispatch error #1285,
    [30002] (02/12 16:01:48.603):{0x26F0} Server = exchch02, Mailbox = /o=Dellaca Group Ltd/ou=CHCH/cn=Recipients/cn=lance Description = You do not have permission to log on. [Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store - [MAPI_E_FAILONEPROVIDER(8004011D)]]
    [30180] (02/12 16:01:48.603):{0x26F0} {lance} CDOCalendar::Initialize - Error in call m_spCalendarFolder = m_spCDOSession->GetDefaultFolder
    [40000] (02/12 16:01:48.603):{0x26F0} CDO initializing failure in CDO helper 04b5ca38 (3)

    Besadmin account has send as, recieve as, administer info store etc.. everything on the RIM documentation as far as I can tell. I have tried giving Besadmin total control over every permission and it still does this :/

    Thanks
