    Savings using a BES?

    n00b alert!

We're starting to get interested in a BES where I work. We have about a dozen users on BBs right now and it's a pain to manage them all without a BES. Is there a cost per month difference when running the BES? In other words, is there something Telus wont have to charge us for after we drop there web support?

    Oh dear Allah! Not Telus!

But seriously, there is a BES charge from RIM, and I believe that's all. (Not sure though; Telus charges people to look at their towers! )

BES Express allows for 1 user for free, and an additional 14 users @ $99 each.

More than that, there is a pricing structure available on RIM's site.

Best thing is to contact RIM sales.

Depends on a couple factors, do you have an existing exchang server, or something else that BES runs on?

BES in the US costs.$2999 for the server with one cal, or $3999 for the server and 20 cals. Other than that, in theory, there should be no additional monthly charges.

Check with Telus. The BlackBerry communicates on a different service when using the BES (as far as RIM is concerned). Many opertors can detect this and charge differenlty.

    Cost of BES.

    You must be joking!
Not only you will NOT save any money, but also be prepared to get charged for maintenance and support by RIM.

Also, some providers charge extra for data service (by MB!).

Normally have a BES plan on your phone account is a little more expensive than a BIS plan. The BES software can be obtained for free these days for free and includes a 1 user CAL, the only issue with the free version is has a limit of 15 users. The 15 user limited can be removed by purchasing a special 5 user CAL which unlock the software to an Enterprise version (only difference is allowed users).

So what you will need to work out is how many users need to use the BES to determine the software cost. Then work out what it cost for an unlimited BES plan on your devices.

You can obtain the BES EXPRESS that Gary's referring to here.

    Take care,
