Had a user lose his BB from at the airport. Is there a way to wipe it from my BES?
Where may i find the instructions on how to?
This is a great tool, but as an administrator you should have the ability PIN to PIN the handheld. If you get a response from the hand held which normally shows backup on your hand held as a green check mark, than you can issue the kill command from the BES. If you do not receive a green check mark back from the PIN to PIN than there is nothing you can do with lost hand held, except hope and pray the PIN and password are not on the device itself. The next step would be to disable the account and watch the queued messages if they go up and then you notice they dropped on the pending count issue the kill command, or as I have done in the past send a message to the hand held saying "This device will self destruct in 10 minutes"
I like to use a policy to set the owner information and lock the handheld remotely and instructing the finder to return if they dont respond then you really dont have to do anything as long as its locked. hope they are a good soul and return the device but once locked only 10 tries till the device wipes itself and still after that the password will still be set so its still useless. one the device is considered "lost" with no return i register the pin with RIM and it can never be activated again
The combination of IT policy and kill command is considered sufficient to meet the IT Security requirements for federal govt - the wipe handheld function whether activated on the handheld or via the BES removes all existing data and the connection back to your network - another point is to contact your service provider and cancel service for phone calls etc, especially if the device is SIM card based as that card could be put in a different device and used to rack up long distance charges. You can always get the phone number moved to another SIM card if required later on.

you can also just lock it remotely from the manager GUI
