    Push Patch To Devices

I am running BES 4.0.4 and would like to push patches to all of the devices on the server. However, I don't have a clue on how to do that.

So, I guess my questions are...

    Where can I do this?

    and

    How do I do this?

    Thanks...

Did a quick search. Not sure if this will be much help. It talks about how to do this on BES 4.1 server.

Hopefully there is something there that you can use.

What patches are you talking about? If you are referring to Blackberry device updates that currently isn't possible.

    Re: Push Patch To Devices

I was looking for a way to push the DST patch to the devices.

According to what Blackberry has posted on their site, one of the planned deployment options is to wirelessly push the patch to the devices. I was just trying to figure out how to do that.

I'll probably just have my users go to the blackberry/dst2007 page to install the patch when it's available.

    Thanks.

    www . blackberry . com / dst2007 / patch / manager /patchmanager.zip

I believe that patch is available to RIM only. It will be made public in 4-5 days so hold tight :P

RIM and the beta testers, I'm guessing. I just tried dl'ing it, too...no luck using my T-Support creds.

I heard it would be generally available this week, so 4-5 days isn't too surprising...

I got the DST files earlier today. They are finally available for download.

Just curious if anybody else is having issues with the DST2007Query tool?

This is what I am seeing in my test user base:

The report successfully generates, but only select BB's are reported to actually have the patch 'Applied'. All others state: 'Awaiting Patch'.

The BB's that do say 'Applied' (last HTTP response is 0) are 8703e devices. Those that say 'Awaiting Patch' are all 7250's (last HTTP response is 200). All BB's have entries stating that the ' 2007 DST patch applied'.

    Re: Push Patch To Devices

i've had problems with the query tool. long story short-- the database doesn't accurately reflect what is on the handhelds. i spoke to RIM about this and their advice is to continue pushing the patches to my unpatched handhelds, regardless of what the query tool reports about the "patched" handhelds.

    Re: Push Patch To Devices

I spoke to RIM this morning on this issue and they had me go on the BES and select all my users and do a "clear pim sync backup data." They said that may help with the database issues. I have not run the query yet again, but it's worth a shot. RIM recommended I wait until tomorrow morning to run the query again and see what happens.

    Re: Push Patch To Devices

I got eager and ran the query just now again. RIM's solution seemed to have worked with me. I had cleared the backup data about 2 and a half hours ago, so I'm not sure if it would be instantaneous or not. Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Re: Push Patch To Devices

I can confirm that the "clear pim sync backup data" does in fact fix the awaiting patch issue. I tested this tonight, and have just deployed this fix for all users in my environment, and the Free tool from Boxtone is updating the patched device count as I write.
mcashman, thanks for the post, this has saved me some sleep!!!!

Works great unless you run it twice due to the filter missing a few users.. omg.. clicky clicky clicky..
