    Ports for BES?

    Hello everyone,

I'm running a trial BES server on my exchange setup. Now I've read the documentation a few months back - so things are a little up in the air at the moment.

I believe I've set everything up correctly - except for one thing - ports. What ports do I need to open on my firewall to allow BES to work properly? Also - are there any specific requirements for wireless activation?

How long does wireless activation typically take?

    Cheers-

    Re: Ports for BES?

    * The BES Server must have Internet access.
    * The firewall/proxy cannot strip out unknown HTTP headers when the BES Server connects to the BigFix Fixlet servers at http://sync.bigfix.com on port 80.
    * All BES Clients should be able to connect to the BES Server using the HTTP protocol on the specified port (default port is 52311).
    * The BES Server should be able to send UDP messages on the specified port (default port is 52311) to all the BES Clients.
    * The BES Server must be accessible from each BES Console using an ODBC connection.

    Thanks!

Is there a way I can check that the setup is correct - and all the above requirements are met? (Is there builtin software to test this?)

    Thanks!

Okay - and finally, how long does it typically take for a enterprise activation (wireless)? I have no experience in this field...

    Thanks!

about 10mins to an hour. depends on the amount of data/contacts on BB among other things.

This all depends on many factors, such as network congestion, speed of the network your connected to, size of each portion of the activation (amount of users in the address book for example), ect... I have some users that activate in 10 minutes, while others have taken 3 to 5 hours.

    Re: Ports for BES?

I'm not sure if this is a Domino specific requirement as I haven't worked with BES on Exchange, but whenever setting up BES in a Domino environment port 3101 has to be opened on the firewall otherwise BES won't be able to make any outbound connections.

    Re: Ports for BES?

Hmm I have never supported Domino so I am not sure about that one.

    Re: Ports for BES?

Just in case it's of any use to anyone, the BES (v4) for Lotus Domino Maint Guide lists the default ports in Appendix B. I have the guide if anyone wants a copy, but a summary of the default ports is as follows, keeping in mind that the ports relate to specific requirements for each BB component:

    BB Attachment Service 1900, 1999, 2000

    BB Controller UDP 4070, 4071

BB Dispatcher TCP incoming 5096, 3201, outgoing 3101 (this is the main port that needs to be set up on the firewall prior to installing BES on Domino)

BB Messaging agent TCP 5096, UDP incoming first unused port in range 4085 - 4499, UDP outgoing 4070, 4071

BB Mobile Data Service HTTP incoming 8080, 8443, outgoing syslog UDP 4070, 4071

    BB Mobile Policy Service 3200

    BB Router TCP 3101, 4101

    BB Synchronization Service 3200

    SNMP Agent UDP 4071
