Question PIN and SMS Privacy on BES

My company just migrated to MS Exchange and the BES.

I've always assumed that my email was viewable by IT department staff, but is it now the case that my PIN and SMS messages are able to be read by them too?

If so, looks like I'm getting myself a second one...

as far as I know PINS are fair game but SMS is routed through the carrier so those should be private.

PIN messaging has no privacy as far as BES. Theadmin can read it all. It's best to chat via Google talk, yahoo messenger etc. There's an article I wrote in the BES forum about BES and your privacy. Can link via BB right now but at the top right in the search box. Search BES privacy and you'll find it there

There's more details about that and secirity there.

I always remind people that if your have a company owned BlackBerry then don't use it for anything personal. Always assume that your corporate admins can see anything.

    GDC, Welcome to PinStack.

As has been pointed out, there is no privacy on a BES if the admins set it up to comply with the provisions of the SOX bill. Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with your BB.

By default a BES only records phone calls to the BES log files, the IT admin can enable SMS/PIN logging.

In this event your work place IT policy "should" refect that your usage/messaging is being monitored.

Re: PIN and SMS Privacy on BES

Nothing is private, everything can be logged. There are products out there that archive SMS, PIN and phonelogs. Thats the only true way for any company to be SOX compliant.

Google a company called GWAVA (BlackBerry archiving). They are archiving everything we thought was private on a BlackBerry (SMS & PIN).
