    Question New BES Admin

Ok, I am a new BES admin and am having an interesting problem. I have personally owned BB's and do not whish to restrict anything.

I have it setup and working now, not policies, or anything. Just noticed on my own that web access is restricted by our internal websense server, because YouTube is blocked and I get the websense message that it is blocked. Seems to be going out our internal internet connection.

Alot of what I have found, says it should not be. Any assistance appreciated.

    Re: New BES Admin

If you're on a BES, you have THREE "browsers" on your BlackBerry:
    • BlackBerry Browser - this is routed through your Company's network to get to the Internet. Any filtering or blocking done by your company will be applied to browsing on your BlackBerry. That is, if you can't get to that porn site at work, you can't get to it using your BlackBerry Browser either!
    • WAP Browser - This may have another name with certain providers (like MediaNet for AT&T - formerly Cingular customers). This is routed through your provider's network, so if you try to go to a site like www.yahoo.com and they have a deal with that site, you come up with the AT&T branded Yahoo site - not Yahoo!
    • Internet Browser - FINALLY, something that actually connects directly to the Internet! No porn blocking here, and Yahoo won't try to sell you crappy MIDI ringtones!
You can set your default browser by going to (Settings/Tools -->) Options --> Advanced Options --> Browser.

Also, with a later version OS, when you save a Bookmark on the BlackBerry, you can specify which browser to use for that bookmark.

Oh yea - don't forget to turn on all the scripting support in the Browser's Options - I suggest changing the settings on only your default (Internet?) browser, however.

Also on my websense box I just put my bes server in a non filter group. That allowed all traffic.
