    MSSQL server stopped.

Ok I had a user submit a helpdesk ticket today saying he wasn't getting anything on his blackberry. I opened up BlackBerry Manager and it failed to open and asked for passwords to the MSSQL database. I then looked in the tool bar and noticed the 'stop' icon in the tray. For some reason the service stopped, I restarted it and every thing went back to normal.

I checked the computer logs and there is nothing about it crashing, or a stop command being sent. Also the server was not restarted nor did it have any updates installed.

So my question - has anyone else had this happen? If so how do you prevent it. Did I do something wrong?

Thanks in advanced for all your help!

    Hi Chatster,

When you opened up BB manager were you using the \Besadmin login or your own?

Also, check your services list for the SQL services and ensure they're properly configured along with their status. You can set recovery actions as well if you'd like.

Did you check the security logs and filter success audit's out to see if something else had gone haywire? I usually go through all of the logs when troubleshooting that type of issue, there's got to be something in there somewhere.

How about a java update or anything else? What other roles are on the box?

Thanks for the follow up PwDiamond,

For some reason a java update was installed. So somehow it stopped the MSSQL server and caused the error for my users. I was logging in with the Blackberry admin login I setup, not my own...

    Thanks!

Ahh... I knew something had to have happened to halt the service. I always set any kind of update on the BES server and DC's to "manual" for just that reason.

You might want to look into setting up service recoveries as I mentioned in the previous post... they can sometimes stave off a rude awakening at 3AM from a server alert or early-bird on the east coast
