    How To - Move the BESMgmt database from MSDE/SQL to a SQL server

    Stop the Blackberry Enterprise Server service.
    Close the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management Console.
    1. Back up the BESMgmt.mdf database:
    1. Open a command prompt and change directory to C:\ > MSSQL7 > binn.
    2. Type osql –U sa –P sa_password (enter the sa password) and press Enter.
    2. Type the following at the numerical prompts:
    1. 1> BACKUP DATABASE BESMgmt TO DISK = 'C:\backup\backup.bak' and press Enter.
    NOTE: C:\backup\backup.bak is the full path to an existing folder. Backup.bak is the back up file name.
    2. 2> go and press Enter.
    3. 1> quit and press Enter.
    3. Stop the Structured Query Language (SQL) service:
    1. Start > Programs > MSDE > Service Manager > Stop.
    4. Go to C:\ > MSSQL7 > Data.
    5. Copy the BESMgmt.mdf and BESMgmtlog.ldf files and place them in another location on the same drive.
    6. Start the SQL service:
    1. Start > Programs > MSDE > Service Manager > Start/Continue.
    7. Open a command prompt and change directory to C:\ > MSSQL7 > binn.
    8. Type osql –E and press Enter.
    9. Type the following at the numerical prompts:
    1. 1> drop database BESMgmt and press Enter.
    2. 2 >go and press Enter.

    NOTE: This will drop and delete the BESMgmt.mdf and BESMgmtlog.ldf database files from the C:\MSSQL7|Data directory.
    3. 1> exit and press Enter.
    10. Copy the BESMgmt.mdf and BESMgmtlog.ldf from the C:\ > MSSQL7 > Data directory on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the SQL 2000 server.
    11. On the SQL 2000 server, open the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
    12. Go to the Database folder.
    13. Right-click the Database folder and click All Tasks, Attach Database. The Attach Database window appears.
    14. Click on the … button.
    15. Go to the location of the BESMgmt.mdf and BESMgmtlog.ldf database files that were copied from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
    16. Select the BESMgmt.mdf file and click OK.
    17. When complete a dialogue box will appear displaying the message Attaching database has completed successfully.
    18. Click OK.
    19. On the BlackBerry Enterprise Server open the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console.
    20. Click OK at the Unable to open the database message.
    21. Click Cancel at the Unable to get BlackBerry Server list message.
    22. In the left pane of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console right-click on BlackBerry Server Management.
    23. Click Properties. The BlackBerry Server Management Properties window appears.
    24. Click on the Database tab.
    25. In the Database Server field enter the name of SQL 2000 server.
    26. Click OK and OK again.
    27. Close BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management Console.
    28. Open the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management Console.
    29. Start BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.

    NOTE: When the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service has been tested and verified to be working
    correctly, the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can be
    uninstalled using Add/Remove Programs.
