Re: IT Policy...How can I remove this?

I have a blackberry 7230 & it was connected to a corporate BES. B/c our corporation has dropped BES, I've successfully removed the IT policy on my BB using the procedure described earlier in this thread. However, I'm still not able to get the google maps app running on my bb. I still get the error message that "The application gmaps7230_v4_0L1 has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."

I've tried wiping the data from my handheld & tried the same from desktop manager but to no avail. One point of note is that this BB was originally a TMobile BB but now I'm using it w/ Cingular. I've been a cingular customer for several months now & do have email & web surfing working on the BB. However, I cannot d/l & install the cingular version of the handheld s/w. I still need to install the tmobile handheld version. (If I install the cingular version, desktop manager complains about no system software found on BB.)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: IT Policy...How can I remove this?

Found the fix through searching other threads. In my case, I had to add the following entries under Options | TCP

APN: wap.cingular
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

After making these changes a hard reset is recommended (remove the battery) but I didn't have to do it. google maps starting working rt after this change.

Re: IT Policy...How can I remove this?

I had a policy on my Ebay bought 7290. The remove policy information worked first try. I was also having some connection to the network issues. They seem to be fixed. Is there anything in a policy that could disconnect the 7290 from the network?

Thank you mcashman! after hours of trying to find the answer, i went to blackberry dot ig3 dot net as you suggested and there it was...a clear, step-by-step answer that actually works.

i just bought my 8700c today from an individual seller not knowing that it was on a BES and that it would give me such a headache. i set the password change to 1 hour but it would prompt me for my password if i even looked at the thing the wrong way. oh yeah, and like other people here it wouldn't let me install any 3rd-party apps.

HUGE relief, thanks!

Re: IT Policy...How can I remove this?

Does the BES Admin have a tool that can determine if you changed the IT Policy or not?

Re: IT Policy...How can I remove this?

infernox,

I'm not absolutly positive, but I really believe this is the case. And in most companies, it is a violation of company HR policy to do so, therefore subject to disciplinary action.

Re: IT Policy...How can I remove this?

I am sure it is...just curious though, do BES admins still have the tools to detect this?
