    GAL Lookup failed

    Hi,

    I have a user who receives failed GAL lookups sporatically. This occurs when they're composing an email and looks up someone on the GAL. The person they're looking up exists on the GAL but does not show up on the BB.

    What needs to be done?

    Overview

    When performing an Address Book lookup, the BlackBerry smartphone displays the following error:
    Lookup Failed



    Cause

    This issue has multiple causes.
    Cause 1

    The service books on the BlackBerry smartphone have become corrupt.
    Cause 2

    If the issue is affecting more than one BlackBerry smartphone user, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server may require a restart.



    Resolution

    Complete the appropriate resolution.
    Cause 1

    The service books on the BlackBerry smartphone have become corrupt.
    Resolution

    Delete the Desktop service books from the BlackBerry smartphone, then activate the BlackBerry smartphone over the wireless network.
    To complete this procedure, perform the following steps:
    1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, open Options, click Advanced Options, and click Service Books.
    2. Select a Desktop service book, open the menu, and click Delete.
    3. When prompted, click Delete again.
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each Desktop service book.
    5. From the Advanced Options, click Enterprise Activation.
    6. In the Email and Password fields, type the enterprise activation email address and password.
    7. Open the menu, then click Activate.
    Cause 2

    If the issue is affecting more than one BlackBerry smartphone user, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server may require a restart.
    Resolution

    Contact the system administrator to restart the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
    Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
