    Question Enterprise Location Tracking

    Hi all.

In BES 4.1.3 there is a new IT Policy setting called "Enable Enterprise Location Tracking".

The description is "Set this rule to True to require the BlackBerry device to report its location to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server at regular intervals".

It will only work on devices running OS 4.2 and higher (and of course that have GPS like the 8800).

So my question is. Does anyone know how to get at the GPS coordinates once you tell the device to report them.

I can't seem to find it anywhere.

    Thanks.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~theres a rummor of an aftermarket app that works with google maps and u set up a refresh rate and it updates position constantly and restarts its self when you turn on the phone or after a loss of satalite coverage and even has zones so you can be alerted when a device enters or leaves the predefined area
And you can look at this in real time also.. this would be great if a Four hundred plus dollar berry were misplaced or your car is stolen with your berry in it but sounds Like an answer to many dreams. For location support in real time
I have looked into this in depth and found no support other than
    This. Alpha/beta in development

I would be interested in finding out if there are any further developments on this. We have just got the 8820 from Orange so it would be great if we could.

    Thanks,

Well - I found a new table in the BESMgmt database where I bet the coordinates are supposed to go - but I still couldn't make it work, though

What stops the user from turning off the location services? I am pretty sure (at least as late as 4.0.7.8) we can force that back on. Even with the outside services (XORA, Telenav Track ect) all the use needs to do is turn off GPS and they (we) can sit at Starbucks all day.

Thumbs down Re: Enterprise Location Tracking

i recently found this switch on our bes and activated it. my device immediatly asked if i wanted to enable location tracking and i set it to YES.

This was about 2 weeks ago...

Not putting 2 and 2 together my Blackberry 8130 has all of a sudden started getting HORRID battery life, would not even last a till 2PM after charging it all night, this is a brand new Berry, also tried another new battery, same thing. I always have a full signal as well.

I went into GPS and set location tracking to DISABLE, bingo... my battery has lasted almost all night now so the location tracking def kills a users battery fast.

I also was unaware the user could disable this, i thought this would have been locked down since i set the policy on the BES but i guess not...

Until i see the actual benefit from it and get a clear directive on how to use it at the administrator level im going to leave it shut off.
