    DR for BES issue

Trying to setup DR instance of BES.

Two BES servers, configured identically except for:

SQL server name (MSDE) is different on Prod and DR instances
Physical server names are different on Prod and DR instances
IP's are different so both can be on the network at same time

    The following were configured identically:

    SRP Key
    CAL key
    BES Server name
    Blackberry database name
Basically, all other options within the BES install

    Prod instance: works 100%.

Take Prod instance offline, stopping ALL Blackberry services and SQL service. Copy the two BES database files (BESMgmt.ldf and MESMgmt.mdf) from D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data to the exact same location on the DR box.

DR instance: Fire up the services and the blackberry works sending and receiving mail, but the Blackberry MDS Connection Service starts and then promptly stops. Therefore no internet access on the device.

Can anyone suggest how I can configure BES on the DR instance to allow MDS to work?!

    Any help really appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Alastair.

    Alastair,
What event/s are you seeing when you try to start the MDS Service?

    Hi,

When I try and start the MDS Connection Service, I get these application events:

    Event ID 35005:
    <2008-11-20 08:00:09.903 GMT>:[3]:<MDS-CS_BESSERVER_MDS-CS_1>:<EVENT>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = MDS-CS server connects to the database>

    Event ID 35001
    <2008-11-20 08:00:10.184 GMT>:[16]:<MDS-CS_BESSERVER_MDS-CS_1>:<EVENT>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = MDS-CS server has started>

    Event ID 35002
    <2008-11-20 08:00:14.121 GMT>:[19]:<MDS-CS_BESSERVER_MDS-CS_1>:<EVENT>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = MDS-CS server has stopped>

    Event ID 35006
    <2008-11-20 08:00:14.137 GMT>:[23]:<MDS-CS_BESSERVER_MDS-CS_1>:<EVENT>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = MDS-CS server disconnects from the database>

    Event ID 35006
    <2008-11-20 08:00:14.137 GMT>:[24]:<MDS-CS_BESSERVER_MDS-CS_1>:<EVENT>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = MDS-CS server disconnects from the database>
    Thats it.

I have read about Java versions being different and that causing problems, but these are new installs, and both definitely have the same Java version.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Al.

The MDS database is unique to the Prod installation, I believe.
I have done a couple of cut over migrations and the MDS database had to be recreated. Try looking at the documentation regarding Knife over migrations in the Admin doc.
Most likely you will have to have a standby MDS database.
Do you really need MDS? Do you have any Apps that use it?

If you just need the service functioning without need for MDS activation, just setup a blank MDS database in the DR.

Sorry didn't look at the event very well,
Check out KB03112 it should point you in the right direction.
