Putting half your user on 1 server and half on the other is NOT a very smart failover solution. If one of those servers were to fail then half your users are down without any backup plan. If you want to provide an intelligent failover solution the follow RIM article KB04647 if you are currently running BES 4.0 or higher or follow KB05032 if running 3.6.

Basically what you are doing in a nutshell is having 2 boxes with a mirror image BES.

For example we'll say you currently have a 4.0.6 BES named BES1. What you would need to do is install the EXACT same version of BES on the new box. Be sure to give the BES server the same server name as your previous box **VERY IMPORTANT**

Then depending on what type of database you use you do the following.

    1) Remote SQL - you simply point the new server to the database running the remote SQL server

    2) local MSDE/SQL - you need to create a backup of the database from your old server and then restore it onto the new server (if using the ne server and it goes down then all you would need to do is create a backup from the new server, copy it to the failover server and restore it there) (follow RIM article KB03112 for proper commands)

Basically all you need to do is make sure you are constantly upgrading both at the sametime. If you decide to upgrade your new 4.0.6 server to 4.1.2 then do the same with the backup. If you've added 20 new users on the new server then make sure you copy thed database over to the old server to reflect those changes.

All you need to do havin an environment like this is keep the services on one server stopped. This way if you have a server down issue all you need to do is start the services on the failover server and your users don't notice anything other than a possible short 10 minutes delay during the time you started the failover server.

    Hope that helps.

We are meeting with Neverfail tomorrow to evaluate their product for our Domino/BES. They are also having a Webinar on Friday that I am not at liberty to share. I would imagine that the recording will be available once the live event is over? Will keep you posted.

We are currently putting our proposal to management together. We cannot find another BES/Domino friendly product available, and this looks like a very good product.

Does anyone have any information on the demo application that can be used for sending out PIN to PIN messages / emergency contact list.....
We have a BES 4.0 running with Exchange 2003 - shall imminently be migrating to 4.1 - we had a outage and had to rely on sms'in about 80 users !!! Not a practical solution!

    What is PINpoint?

PINpoint is an application for BlackBerry smartphones. It was designed to overcome the limitations of default messaging address books. The software consists of the PINpoint contacts browser, which you can launch from your BlackBerry desktop, as well as an easy to use PINpoint Management Console for administrators.
What Can PINpoint do for You?

    The Familiar Scenario
Is your Blackberry's Contacts List up to date? Are you sure? Have you ever forgotten to update your team when your own contact info has changed? Ever had trouble getting in touch with your colleagues when it was important?
PINpoint can help! Two clicks to get in touch!
With PINpoint, your company rolodex is at your fingertips, and it's ALWAYS up to date! With only two clicks on your Blackberry, you can phone, e-mail or PIN anyone in the organization. PINpoint's browser makes getting in touch EASY.
    What does PINpoint do?
PINpoint automatically pushes current, relevant contacts directly to your Blackberry's cache. Reliable phone, PIN and e-mail addresses can be selected with ease in the PINpoint browser screen on your Blackberry. No more digging down into your Contacts List for phone numbers, when you can't even be sure if they're up to date! But that's not all...
Having PINpoint is critical to your Disaster Recovery Plan!
Having a reliable contact list at your fingertips is great, but PINpoint's contact list is stored locally on your Blackberry. That means even in extreme situations like power failures or server outtages, you have correct phone numbers and Blackberry PIN numbers for everyone in your organization. PINpoint guarantees your contacts are correct, and is a critical tool for any disaster recovery plan!
    PINpoint makes team communications easy!

    1) Connect with anyone in your organization (With just TWO clicks).
    2) Go confidently! Know that you have a current, reliabile contact list at all times.
    3) Stay in touch, even if the servers go down.
