    Disable phone from blackberry

i have some users who only have a data plan and have asked me if i can disable their bb phone.
is there a way to disable the phone capability on just a few users?
there is a policy but i believe affects all users, i just would like to disable the phone to only a few users.
can i just remove the phone application using app loader? is it possible this way?
    thanks

You can't remove the phone from Desktop Manager, or from the phone either.

I'm curious as if to they don't have a voice plan why they would care if it's disabled. It's not like they are going to be getting any calls. Why not just hide the phone icon?

Right, but if there is no voice plan, how could they make a call? I'm not even sure how it's possible to have a data plan without a voice plan.

the issue is that they receive random calls - also the bb places random calls as well when the unit is inside a bag or purse - by accident some keys just get pressed and goes there a call - some of these calls placed by accident get charged to their bills

Ahhhhh, okay. That makes sense now. Sorry for the confusion.

Since you can't remove the Phone app, you could go into the applications, and set the default permissions to deny and see if that will block it.

    thanks for the repply -
will try denying access to the app first to see if it works -
if not, then i will call t-mobile to see if they can block it --
i HATE calling t-mobile support - they are a bunch of idiots...

if the user has the tmobile blackberry service they can add the "family allowances" add-on for about $2/month

there u can block all calls in and out .

One issue here might be taking away the ability to place emergency calls to 911 / 112..
    Just a thought.

You can also create a custom IT policy that disallows the use of the phone portion.~via smartphone~
