    can't change logging settings on BES

    Advertisement

    I did an install of BES for Exchange . Exchange is part of SBS2003 and BES is on a 2003 R2 member server.

    The BES software is a recent download and from memory maybe 4.1.4 SP4

    I made a BESAdmin user who is a member of the local administrators group of the BES server and is also a domain user and that domain user is a member of the local BES administrators and am logged into the BES using that account.

    So far everything is working and I set up one Blackberry which wirelessly syncs and has working email.

    I need to follow the organizations guidelines for the BES which include setting up IT policies and configuring various server settings.

    When I start Blackberry Server Configuration to change logging settings I click the logging tab. It allows me change the log root location, prefix and tick the daily folder creation.

    It won't allow me to change any of the Blackberry service log settings. I get no response or error when I click each setting.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

    The logging is set in the policy.

    Select the Global tab, and click Edit Properties.
    Click IT Policy.

    In the IT Policy Administration section, double-click IT Policies.
    Click one of the policies in the list.

    Click Properties > PIM Sync Policy Group.

    To monitor SMS or PIN messages, complete the steps below.
    ActionProcedureMonitor the SMS messages users send and receive from BlackBerry devices.

    * Click Disable SMS Messages Wireless Sync.

    * In the drop-down list, select False.

    Monitor the PIN messages users send and receive from BlackBerry devices.

    * Click Disable PIN Messages Wireless Sync.

    * In the drop-down list, select False.

    Click OK to close the open windows.

    Restart the BlackBerry Synchronization Service. The BlackBerry Enterprise
    Server creates the log files using the following formats:
    * PIN messages: PINLog_<YYYYMMDD>.csv
    * SMS messages: SMSLog_<YYYYMMDD>.csv
    * Phone calls: PhoneCallLog_<YYYYMMDD>.csv

    I know it seems odd to set to False, but this kicks in the logging. Edit:

    This came from http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...bes_4_1_a.html

    had it in a notepad file, but thats where I first found it.

    Thanks for your reply. I think you may be describing different logging.

    The logging settings I am trying to change are "debug log maximum", "daily file size" etc listed under the logging tab of Blackberry Server Configuration. When I click any setting I get absolutely no response as if they were set to being non-editable or display settings only.

    Odd, I can simply go into the logging and edit. I wonder if it is related to your database Connectivity settings? Did you try a test SQL Server Connection or have you created a Secure Connection Password?

    The SQL connection tested OK. I am able to add users, set policies and activate a device. You may have hit on what I missed with the secure password. I didn't install MDS and thought it said the password had something to do with it so I never entered one.

    Is it too late to enter one?

    Are you just trying to change the location where the Logging in the BlackBerry Server Config Panel? If so once you change the location you have to restart either reboot your BES or just restart the BES related services.

    Hope this helps!
