    Calendar Entries Dissappearing

    Hi everyone,

    Now here's one I just don't get!

    I've got a BES 4.0 with various devices 8700s and 83xxs.

The calendar entries that are more than 3 or 4 weeks old no longer appear on the devices.

Any future entries are there and also any entries that re-occur are also retained.

The entries are still there on the client though. I've checked through the options within calendar and I make sure the 'keep for' option is always set to 'foreever'.

I thought it would bea memory thing, but emails, call logs are not 'self deleting' as has happened in the past because of lack of memory.

Can anyone help with this one?

    Thanks.

Is the BES PIM Sync Options set to reflect the proper calendar options that you want? The phone can show or allow you to change certain options but if the BES is set to something different, it overrides any differences on the device.

Thanks for the tip...I've checked it all out and the PIM Sync paths look fine.

I've been in touch with Vodafone numerous times and I've finally spoken to someone who made some sense...

I'm told that because I set the emails and calendar entries to 'keep forever' this will cause a memory problem.

The devices will delete any historical calendar entries to free up memory. This kinda sounds right but just wanted to get your view on that, what do you think?

I've had many of my devices delete the call logs, emails browser cache etc in one go to free up memory in the past, so I know this ocurrs.

    Thanks.

Is there a memory issue on the device on which this is occurring?

7386277 Bytes this figure is from my BB 8310.

There seems to be loads of memory free.

This kinda blows Vodafones theory out the water then.

    Hmmm...I'm really quite stumped.

I'm on a BES and a BES admin but in no way an expert with the BES. I have an 8330 and have no problems with calendar entries deleting. The device clearing out memory when it is low usually is not as selective as Vodafone makes it sound. It will typically delete call logs & SMS, etc. and not just items in one specific area.

MWPatterson is one of the BES experts around here. I'll send him this thread and maybe he can help.

What do the devices say on the "Options/Keep appointments:" line?

Thanks for helping me with this one, really appreciate your help!

I set this to 'forever' on all my devices. That's what I don't get.

And I don't know how long this might have been going on for as it was only brough to my attention a couple of weeks ago.

    Thanks.

The setting is still "forever," right? Are you setting that with an it policy?

Other than that, I'd guess somehow this is a purge on low memory. I was runing the beta boxtone app which shows free RAM on a graph over time a while ago and was surprised at how much the free RAM fluctuates - very possible it was getting low enough to trigger the cleanup.

We had a issue where all of our new 8330's did not have the historical calendar in them either.

One thing might be is to have the user deleted from BES, including there profile. Then re-add them, and activate them again.

I would recommend getting BES update to the latest patches too. There is a nasty bug with attachments.

See if that helps and let me know.

    Thanks for your advice.

I might just try the delete and re-add later next week.

I'm on BES 4.0.7.9, is there a more recent version for 4.0?

    thanks.

For 4.0 there is Service Pack 7 Maintenance Release 3

For 4.1 there is Service Pack 6 Maintenance Release 2

If you want to use newer features in OS 4.5 or greater I would go to 4.1. I know HTML email is in it with the latest patches on it.

Link to BES on Blackberry website to download patches.

Thanks, I'll go and check that out.

Because of the Christmas period, I won't be able to do anything until the New Year.

I'll let you know how it goes then.

    Thanks for helping.
