    Re: cache mode

Outlook 2003 includes a new feature called Cached Exchange Mode (also referred to as Local Cache Mode). When this feature is enabled, Outlook creates a local or duplicate copy of the user’s mailbox on the desktop computer. BlackBerry Desktop Software does not fully support the new Cached Exchange Mode feature.

Hello, I have been an exchange admin for a minute now (a couple of years), so I know what cache mode is...I was asking about the issues that cache mode creates for bb synch.

there are some... I was asking if anyone knew that it was documented. I know how to explain the issues, but sometimes CIO's want documentation before they believe that its an issue.

    but thanks for the answer.

    Re: cache mode

When a user has Outlook in cached mode all they need to do is press "Send & Receive" and it forces an update to the server and all items will be reconciled correctly.

    Re: cache mode

when in exchange cache mode, you can always change the send & Receive settings to sync everything 5 minutes. That way the BB and outlook will be in sync for the most part.

    Re: cache mode

The only issues with cached mode are outlined below - both links are about other things but mention the outlook cached mode. also if you go to rim and search on outlook cached mode you will find a wack of stuff. basically the only potential problem is when an encryption key is generated while the user is in cached mode, if your site still uses desktop manager.

Cause 10 - Encryption Key was Saved in the Wrong Location
If you have Cached Exchange Mode enabled in Outlook 2003, then you may have generated a new encryption key since enabling this feature. As a result, the new encryption key has been written to the offline folder created by Cached Exchange Mode, instead of the Outlook mailbox. This causes a discrepancy between the encryption key on the BlackBerry device and the encryption key in the mailbox.
    Resolution
Clear the Service Book database on the BlackBerry device, run the DBClean utility, then generate a new encryption key.
Disable Cached Exchange Mode in Outlook. For instructions, see "Turn on or off Cached Exchange Mode" in the Microsoft Office Outlook Help.
Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click the Backup and Restore icon.
On the Backup and Restore window, clickAdvanced. The Backup/Restore window appears.
In the Handheld Databases list box, select theService Book database, then clickClear.
On the Warning window, click OK. The Service Book database is erased on the BlackBerry device.
Click Close until the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window is displayed.
    Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Note: If you are using BlackBerry Desktop Redirector, skip step 9.
Contact your service provider for instructions on how to use the DBClean utility.
Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager and connect your BlackBerry device to the computer.
You should be prompted to generate a new encryption key. If not, generate a new encryption key using the instructions in the Additional Information section below.
If you wish, you may re-enable the Cached Exchange Mode in Outlook.

To generate a new encryption key:
Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    Double-click the Redirector Settings icon.
    Click the Security tab.
Click the Generate keys manually option.
    Click Generate.
Move your mouse around randomly until the Generating New Key dialog closes.
    Click Apply.
Verify that the Status field displays "Up to date".
    Click OK.
