BES Upgrade Scenario & Procedure
Hi all. Yay first post form me!
First, I'd like to upload or link an avatar for myself but each time I try, the profile page does not confirm the [Save]. Just get a blank page. /shrug
Looking forward to participating in the forums for quality info & conversation with my fellow BES Admin peers.
So here's my situation:
We're running BES 4.0.3 with Domino 6 on an old P3 XEON box with WinServ2k3 patched and updated. AV=SAV10. Also running Commontime mNotes for our Palm & Windows device folks who won't wake up and smell the Blackberrys cookin'. (200+ BBs vs 34 Palm/Windows devices)
The BES database is an MSDE instance while mNotes is SQL.
RIM has announced that TSupport for Server 4.0 will end 12/31/07. Therefore, we are going to upgrade to 4.1 SPx HFx (whatever it's up to by then).
We want to load WinServ2k3 on a brand, new box and load BES 4.1 on there and have the database SQL instead of MSDE.
I've got the upgrade guild d/l andI've been reading through it. But sometimes, its better to hear it in plain English than in a technical manual.
- What would be the easiest way to convert the MSDE database (BESMgmt) from the 4.0 server to SQL on the new server?
- How can we make the switchover with minimal break in service for our users?
- Can BESMgmt as SQL coexist with the mNotes database on the same box?
- Anybody else go through this scenario? Got procedures?
I tried to ask during the webinar on 1/24/07, but the server was overloaded and nothing got accomplished.
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Flames will have an IT Policy set on them!
