Question BES License 3.6 to 4.1x

I'm trying to determine whether our BES 3.6 licenses are transferrable to BES 4.1, or will we be required to buy a whole new BES (including licenses). After reading all the warnings and general consternation over upgrading I think I’ll remove 3.6 and install 4.1 (on the same Win2003 box). We have just ten users.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just buy the upgrade kit and save a few grand.

Then try the upgrade. Then copy the license keys in the database ASAP.

If it does not work then you can install fresh and add the keys back in and save a bit of money and look like a hero to the bean counters.

Just make sure you are on the right service pack of 3.6 so you can upgrade.

Thanks Rope stud. So you're saying give it a try and, if it fails, spend the $, if I read you correctly.

I spoke to RIM and was told that the upgrade price is $1,000. On the other hand, a year of service is $775 and includes all upgrades, for that period. He said the new BES (5.0) will be out in 10 months or so (yea right!) and would be included.

Thanks for taking the time to help, much appreciated.

Ah no, you have to spend money to upgrade to 4.1 by either one time upgrade or support contract.

I would go with the cheaper route since there is more to benifit from.
