    Hi i just purchased a 8300 from a guy off of craigslist and he got his blackberry from his company and from what i understnad and read have to remove the IT Policy I am using this for personal use and from what i read this needs to be done with some1 that has a BES but im at home what can i do

    just erase the whole phone. go to install the newest OS you can find, then when it asks if you "want to restore your settings at the end" say no. it should be just like the first day it came out of the box.

    Yes, a wipe should fix this, especially if you have to have a password.
    Another way to wipe the device is to attempt to enter the password 10 times... it will then automatically wipe itself after 10 incorrect attempts.

    Wiping a handheld will not remove an IT Policy.

    i dissagree.... wiping the blackberry has worked for us to get rid of the old IT policies.

    It depends. In my experience, redeploying our own devices, the IT policy seems to be removed when the appropraite changes are made on our BES.

    But, if a user just selss a device to someone (craigslist, ebay, etc) without notifying his BES Admin, then the IT policy will continue to be sent to the device, despite wiping or even reloading the OS since it is still on a company BES.

    I agree with BBFixer. I've had many people buy used BB's from places and bring them in to me because after they do a security wipe, the IT policy is still in place.
