BES / Exchange Email prior to activation

First post here. I have Googled this a bit but come up empty so far.

    Here is the scenario:
I installed BES on an SBS 2003 Server. Exchange 2003, SP2 is the mail platform. Everything went fine with the BES install for the most part.

I had a user who we activated with the provider on 8/20/2007. The BB is a 8800. She cannot see any email in her Inbox prior to the activation date. Is that normal? I suspect that is not a coincidence, but want to be sure. Perhaps there is some setting on the device or in the BES Manager that would allow her to see email stored prior to the activation date.

Thanks in advance. Sure seems like the Community is helpful here so perhaps you can clue me in a bit on whether she should be able to see older email in her Outlook / Exchange Inbox.

The stored emails are not being broadcast by the server any longer, they are simply stored. To get them show on the BB she would either log into a webbased email server if you offer one or fwd the messages to herself.

I'm also concerned about this. You say that "BES is no longer forwarding stored messages", what exactly does that mean? Has something changed in the BES product to remove this "feature"? Or is something misconfigured?

Obviously using a "web" email or "forwarding" messages to yourself is a non-answer since this is about using the blackberry email in a reasonable fashion. I had VZW mail service on my treo for a couple of years and it would forward the last x number of days of email based on my configuration and didn't have anything to do with when it was turned on.

When activating the BES should send down by default the last 7 days of emails.

Is there someway to change the default from 7 days to some other value, say, 60 days?

depending on your BES version the maximum you can set it 2 is 14 days. 60 days of emails would be alot of data to push during an activation. If you want more information on it look up pre population on the blackberry website

Our bes will pre-populate up to 7 days or 350 messages. Which ever comes first.

    OK, That helps a bunch.

Thanks to your tips I researched Pre-Population. I set that option to 14 days from the default of 5 days. Sure seems like there should be a way to get older email messages to show up on the blackberry (short of the user forwarding them) but perhaps there isn't. This device is for the President of an organization and they would like all of their email to show up on the Blackberry, even if the email is over a year old.

Thanks for the info. I am more enlightened now on this issue.

    A follow up question:

Is there a default policy that determines how long messages will be displayed on a BB?

    Example:
A user gets a BB activated and several months pass. They don't do a good job keeping their Inbox clean. Eventually, they have 1000 messages that span over several months in their Exchange Inbox.

Will all of those messages be available on the Blackberry or is there a limit (# of messages or weeks) to how much mail they can see on the Blackberry device?

Thanks. Sorry to be such a Noob.
