Is there a way that I can report on a users data usage?

My billing provider just quotes our account as using x00 mbs in a month and I want to see which users are using what data.

    Thanks in advance

I have not found anything on my bes about it either. We are running 4.1.3.16.

Have a look in the BES resource kit. Under the section generating detailed statistics. You have to do some work copying log files and customising the report query commands to get what you want.

If you need to you can extract MDS data size reports Push / Pull data requests message (email / sms / mms and pin ) information etc per user. Pump your results into a spreadsheet and analyse all day long

The resource kits for BES 4.0 and 4.1 are available from the following site

eu.blackberry.com/eng/support/software/exchange.jsp and goto the download tab

Re: bes data usage by user

How to extract user data usage (quick and dirty)

First download the BES resource Kit for the version of BES you have installed from the Blackberry support site

Next copy the log files from the BES log file directories on the BES server. For user data usage data we only need the Messaging Agent and Dispatcher logs

Use the Windows explorer to search the log directories for *MAGT* files and *DISP* organise your results by date then select and copy the files for the period of time you want to analyse, copy all these files into a working directory on the system where you are going to run the analysis tools Not on the BES server!.

From the resource kit copy the HistoricalStats tool to the same working directory

Open a command prompt and navigate to your working directory where you copied the MAGT and DISP log files.

To generate a comma delimited file of usage date per user type the following command. The e switch is for exchange server based logs change to d for Domino or g for Novell

    HistoricalStats –p e –u all –output all

The full list of options is listed in the BES resource kit manual that comes as a pdf with the kit.

The command should the process all the log files in the directory as per the screenshot below then create a CSV file called HistoricalStats_Date.csv

After a bit of sorting and data sifting you should have the following information on each of your users

    Server ..........................BES-SRV002
    User ..............................Jockat blackberry-co.uk
    Disp name .....................Jock, Dude
    DeviceID ......................252B30BC
