I have given the besadmin account send as permissions as directed but I am till unable to send on my blackberrry. We have two exchange servers which are clustered. When it is on the primary server we have no trouble sending on our blackberrys, but when it fails over to the secondary it does not work. Does the besadmin account need any other permissions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: BES 4.1 (SP1) - Cannot send mail.

This is very easy to fix. All you need to do is stop the "BlackBerry Router" service, then go into Active Directory and from the "View" menu select "Advanced Features", then go to every BlackBerry user in AD and open their properties. For their properties window select the "Security" tab, from here add your BES account (normally BESadmin) and only add the permission "Send As". You will have to repeat this for all users on your BES, wait 20 minutes after you have done all the users and then start the "BlackBerry Router" again.

If you have any admin users with BlackBerry devices it will inherited permissions from the "Admin" group and it will remove the BESadmin "Send As" permission". So all you need to do is closely note down any inherited permission to the user in the security tab, then go to the advanced option and untick “Allow inheritable permissions from the parent …”. Once you have done this ensure any required permissions are added back to the admin user then add BESadmin with “Send As” permissions again. Once again wait 20 minutes before restarting the “BlackBerry Router” service.

If anyone want to know the relevance of stopping the router service for 20 minutes it the amount of time the BES server takes to clear it cache locally and on the relay.

We have followed the fix that garycutri posted and admins can send emai for about an hour and then the Blackberry account is removed from their security tab in AD. Anyone have any more suggestions

Re: BES 4.1 (SP1) - Cannot send mail.

The fix posted by nalinda worked for me. We are using Exchange 2003 and we were adding the BESAdmin user to each account but after about an hour it was the BESAdmin user was being removed.

Because the each of users is part of the Domain Admins group they were not alliowed to have the send as permission. We then used the dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=mydomain,dc=com " /G "MYDOMAIN\BlackBerrySA :CA;Send As" command to fix the issue. Since that fix all has been working fine. Thanks for the advice.

Exchange 2003 SP 2 changed the way send as work. So Blackberry Service account got locked out.

    Solution:
Go to the AD Users & Computer.
Right Click on the domain, go the security tab,
    select Advanced
    Add the Blackberry service account
From the Applies Onto list, click User Objects select user objects
    Give snd as permisions
Replicated if you have other ADs

    Note:
If you can reboot your domain server and exchange servers, you donot have to wait and 1 hour to find out if it works.

If you find that the send as permision disappers from some users; especialy administrator type accounts, run
    dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=mydomain,dc=com " /G "MYDOMAIN\BlackBerrySA :CA;Send As"

Note: In this command, MYDOMAIN\BlackBerrySA is a placeholder for the name of the BlackBerry Service account. Change it to represent the proper account name in use for this domain, also correct the MYDOMAIN portion to match the real local domain. Make sure that you do not add a space between BlackBerrySA and ":CA". Don't forget to replace the mydomain and com with the proper user local domain.

    Also,

If you have a migrated AD, some accounts will not work. IF so go to the properties page of the user in AD.
    In the Security tab, Advanced
Make sure to check the box that says "allow inheritaed permisions to propergate..."

    If this done correctly, you can see from the user properties (of an effected person), Security/advanced tab/alonf the Blackberry service account/in the column for Inherited From;
;It will have the domain infomation there "DC=yourdomain,DC=COM"
hey guys here is a bit more info to help you with this script, say you domain name is abc.local and the blackberry exchange admin account is BESAdmin then the script should look like this:

    dsacls "cn=adminsdholder,cn=system,dc=abc,dc=local " /G "abc.local\BESadmin:CA;Send As"

Re: BES 4.1 (SP1) - Cannot send mail.

We just installed blackberry enterprise server on our Microsoft Small Business Server which has Exchange Server 2003. My install for Blackberry Server went very smooth. However, my calendar would not update, but I was able to both send and receive emails through the exchange server from the handheld. I contacted blackberry and after almost 5 hours of tech support on the phone, we deleted the entire blackberry enterprise server and re-installed it on the Microsoft Exchange Server. After the re-installation, the calendar issue cleared up and we ended the support call. I then attempted to send an email and got the BIG RED X. The next day I re-contacted RIM and spent another 3 hours or so on the phone with support, spoke with 3 different individuals and we were unable to resolve the issue. I would certainly appreciate any help on this matter, I hate to delete the blackberry server and revert to the Verizon web client or worse yet, desktop redirector.

    thanks

    Virtually same problem here!
Currently installed on SBS 2003 R2, everything worked perfect for the first 10 minutes.
Telus then blocked access between the BES and the device.
Resolved that, everything worked perfect for 4 days then suddenly no ability to send email from the device. Receive works fine, I've tried everything mentioned here so far, still not working.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    From MAGT log:
