    Howdy,
Anyone know if it's necessary to install SP1 for BES 4.1 before installing SP2?

Read the release notes and wasn't clear on this.

As a recommendation I'd always install the SP's and Hotfixes as a local administrator on the BES, earlier versions had problems if you installed them as standard user - nobody else could install any software.

Also recommended is to take an image of the server after each SP install. It may involve a bit more downtime but in the long run it could be vital to have a backup.

When you install a BES service pack you need to install them logged on as the BlackBerry Administrator which is normally set as a local Administrator if it was installed correctly (Normally username is BESadmin). Another reason to install the service pack as the BlackBerry Administrator is the fact that during the update process it will assign what account you are logged on as to the BlackBerry services. So DON'T install any service packs under any other user other than the BB admin which is normally set as BESadmin.

During the update process of a service pack it also does a backup of your database. All that is really required is an extra backup of the two BES database files in the under Program Files and SQL (Assuming you are using MSDE).
