    Backup BES 4.1 database

    Hi,

I've got a BES server which is a Win 2k server with BES 4.1 and local copy of MSDE 2000 SQL.

I'm trying to backup the configuration database by using the BlackBerryDBBackup.exe tool on the BES CD.

If I run the following command:

    BlackberryDbBackup -d BESMgmt -f c:\DB_Backup_Folder -s servername -U domain\username - password

I receive the error "sqlserver login failure"

Database authentication is set to windows.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong here?

Would there be any problems if I backed up the blackberry database from our main SQL Server using SQL Server Enterprise Manager?

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: Backup BES 4.1 database

It sounds like you need the password for MSDE and not Windows as the Authentication is not set to Windows Authentication. I would use Enterprise manager as it would give you a good backup. Otherwise you can stop the services and BES and then copy the files off. This way you get an online backup as the can be problems with the backups from SQL. We have systems that will not come back from them, of course they are over 1TB but, we have smaller systems that are having the same problems and you can google and find out it is common for problems with the online backup from SQL.

    Re: Backup BES 4.1 database

    Hi,

I was sure I used the same password for MSDE as I did for the besadmin account.

To test this, I setup a ODBC connection on the server to the BESMgmt database and used the besadmin account details and I was able to make a successful test connection to the database.

Anyway in the meantime I will follow your advice.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Back Up the Blackberry Configuration Database

If you are using a full Microsoft SQL Server, complete the following steps:
    1. Open Enterprise Manager.
    2. Right-click the BlackBerry Configuration Database (the default name is BESMgmt).
    3. Select Backup Database.
    4. Click Add to specify the Directory Name and File Name. Click OK to accept the settings.
    5. Click OK to perform the backup.
    6. Close Enterprise Manager.
If you are using an MSDE server, complete the following steps:
    1. Open a command prompt and type osql -E
    2. Type the following commands in the specified order:
      1. backup database <database_name> to disk = "C:\backup.bak"
      2. go
      3. quit
    3. Close the command prompt.
