    Annoying Problem with BES Server

    Hi,

I am running a BES server 3.6 SP7 with 7 users on it.

The problem started last week now with the users recieving email but are unable to send email. It comes up with a little red cross on the hand held and its unable to send the message.

Now i've gone to look in the properties of the BES sever. In the BES managment console, go to the properties of our server when i get this message, " Unable to open propery page for this server. You do not have sufficent access."

I've tryed all the normal steps i've been on to Vodafone about this plus the support people that help me when i get stuck, but no one has any idea's.

    Cheers

    Andy

Re: Annoying Problem with BES Server

Can you please open one of these messages that didn't send and post back the error message the device returned?

These issues don't appear to be BES related by the brief description you have given. It appears you have had network security changes take place; it may have been purposely changed or accidentally changed by the addition of a Microsoft patch.

Can you please also reply back with the following information?

    1. What Mail Server are you running?
    2. If it is Exchange what are the file versions of cdo.dll and mapi32.dll? (right mouse click the file and select properties and then the Version tab)

    Hi Chaps,

I've not fixed this problem. I clean install of the BES server on a new box sorted it

However i've still to find the cause of the problem. From what i have found out, it looks like it was permissions based.

Have you installed any SP's or HF's to your Exchange enviroment in the last week or so. My guess your problem lies in you Exchange enviroment and not the BES itself ... give this a read ... my .02 cents

unclear if you are using this BES install w/ a SQL database...but the symptoms sound like a permissions issue within the database (assuming you are running SQL)

Make sure that SMTP is turned off on the BES server so that it sends the email out via the Exchange server instead...

With the error you received it is permissions based that caused your issue. Be sure you have a separate account setup specifically for the bes server and the below document will outline all required permissions needed.
