User's are not getting all their contacts sync on a 8800 running. Some user's get "Some database failed to synchronize. Address Book" while running EA? Blackberry Manager version 4.1.5.26, Blackberry 8800 Wirless Handhel(EDGE) v4.2.1.79? Does reloading software fix this problem? Is there a problem on the BES?

    Environment

    • BlackBerry® devices
    • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
    • SDR101354

    Problem

While performing an enterprise activation process on your BlackBerry device, the following error message is displayed:
Some databases failed to synchronize: Address book

    Cause

There are multiple causes for this error.
    Summary of Causes
    1. You have created a Microsoft® Outlook® contact that contains no name or company name (for example, a contact with only a phone number).
    2. There are invalid characters (#$@!%$-,^") in your BlackBerry device Address Book, your IBM® Lotus® Notes® address book, or your Microsoft Outlook contacts.
    3. You have created a Novell® GroupWise® contact that contains no first name and last name, supplying only the display name.

    Resolution

Complete the appropriate resolution for your cause.
    Cause 1
You have created a Microsoft Outlook contact that contains no name or company name.
    Resolution
Open Microsoft Outlook Contacts and check for entries with blank name fields If there is a blank name field, validate the contact by typing information into the name field.
    Cause 2
There are invalid characters (#$@!%$"-,^") in your BlackBerry device Address Book, IBM Lotus Notes address book, or Microsoft Outlook contacts.
    Resolution
Check your contacts for any invalid characters in the name field. If there is an invalid character, remove the character and then save the contact.
    Cause 3
You have created a Novell GroupWise contact that contains no first name and last name, supplying only the display name.
    Resolution
Check your contacts for any entries that do not have a first name and last name. If a contact is located that does not have a first name and last name, type information into those fields.
Once this change is made, you can force the BlackBerry device Address Book to synchronize again by performing the following steps:
    1. On the BlackBerry device, open Address Book.
    2. View the menu and select Options.
    3. Set Wireless Synchronization to No and then save the changes.
    4. Open the Address Book Options screen again.
    5. Set Wireless Synchronization to Yes and again save the changes.

    Problem

At the end of Enterprise Activation you receive the following error:
Some databases failed to synchronize: Address Book.

    Cause

    Additional Information

Blank contact entries and distribution lists do not synchronize to the BlackBerry device during the Enterprise Activation and can cause the same error message.
