Thumbs down Why is 8800 so expensive

I am wondering why the heck the 8800 is so much, its the most BB they've had and they still got the 8300 to come out? Are they trying to get as much money they can before the iphone drops? When it first came out (8800) and tmo let you upgrade online, it was 502.00 with taxes and thats WITH a 2 yr extension. I did not check out cause thats nuts to spend half of a grand on a freakin' BB. I hope the 8300 is cheaper cause thats ridiculous, id rather pay 500 for a iphone, least you got a phone and ipod lol.

'cuz people are willing to pay that much everytime a new phone is release, give it a few months and you will see the price drop

Bingo... i was going to say the same thing... Anything new is going to be pricey( supply & demand)... You can get Pearls for 300 bucks full retail since they have been out for so long and the demand isn't what it was when they were first released...... You can get them for Free with a plan....

Man you can not compare an iphone with a BlackBerry no way. In fact iphone is the first phone from apple, its technical facts are amazing, but there are going to be bugs.

On the other hand what do you want: an ipod+phone or BB capable of answer and receive all you emails, tasks, calendar, etc ?

Those are different devices for different people and apps.

I mean if you use a BB and you want to upgrade you won't buy an iphone (at least until RIM begin to offer the Virtual BB).

    That's my opinion.

I wouldnt pay the 500 either. I picked up my 8800 nib on ebay for 350 with shipping. If you dig around you can always find a better deal.

I paid $179 on Amazon.com and there was also a $25 rebate available. This was with a 2 year extention to my contract.

The features are what make the phone expensive and as previously mentioned I would expect some bugs with the iPhone. It's a cool phone and will not be pugrading to it any time soon due to the possible bugs.

It's not expensive. It's typical pricing for a newly released BB and it will drop over time. If it's too much for you then wait...

$500 isn't the upgrade price and if a rep gave you that price the rep was mistaken. As bglawrence says, that's the unsubsidized price.

I was quoted 479 for a upgrade........ 349.99 new 2 year contract, 549.99 is the full price. So 479 + tax would equal 500.

I know the phone price will go down, but thats not even the point. The point is that this phone started off a VERY high price and there is no reason why its any different than the 8100 other than being wider and qwerty keyboard. I would understand a price of 450 full price vs 549.99

$549 isn't unreasonable for a brand new unsubsidized device. What are you basing your $450 price on? What unsubsidized smartphones have you purchased just after release for that price?

As for upgrade pricing -- all carriers are pushing the 2 year extensions.
