This is really sad, I have a 8800 and have no clue. Good Luck with unlocking the answer.

ummm... these are contacts that follow directly back to the battery. They are also the same contacts on the pearl.

Older startacs used to have the same contacts where you could attach piggyback extended batteries on top.

These two orange strips are just for a conduit... it is not intricate enough to use addons like gps... but last i checked the 8800 has gps built in.

What magnetic field lol its a magnetic switch in the phone when its entered into the holster it turns off it works the same way a magnetic switch works on your front door or windows for a security system.

They're charging contacts. Just like the docking station I have for my pearl. They line up right with these contacts on the pearl.

it could just be the antenna aerial wrapped around the bb, and leaving gaps 'cause of the metal frame covering the antenna aerial?????

It is for when the handset is used with a docking station (for charging the battery obv)
Nothing to do with GPS or carrying the handset in the holster.

Agreed, it's for a docking station, nothing more.
