What is this on the 8800?

Does anyone know what the gold contacts on the left side of the 8800 are? I just upgraded from an 8700 and this is has me puzzled. One of my coworkers says that he has users asking him the same question. One possibility that was explanation is that it is for the GPS receiver. Any thoughts?

I looked all over the place and couldn't find it (even the manual). Cherri probably nailed it.

I did and it didn't get me excited at all. What a disappointment.

It is for docking, what other use would it server? I do not think they would add something like that for GPS reciever, seeing as how the 8800 has internal GPS.

I was wondering that myself. Someone should hook those contacts up to an oscilloscope or multimeter and see if anything electotastical is going on.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~it is supposdly for a dock that will be avliable later. Same with the pearl if you look on the back bottom. Near the battery. That is the besy answer that I could get from my managers at Cingular

I'm thinking it's an extra convenience key.

Thanks for the answers. Let me know if you find out anything solid. I'm sure I will be asked by many users as these begin to replace 8700s.

Well these are actually indented leading most to believe that is is some sort of electric contact.
