    Verizon Software 4.2.2.148 on Non-Verizon 8830's

Has anyone not using a Verizon device downloaded and installed this software version? I put it on my Sprint unit last Friday and it's running fine. The only difference I can find is that many of the .cod files are smaller.

After I installed it and ran the Desktop Manager, I was prompted to do a backup/wipe on the Blackberry. The software installed the first try, and since Friday, I've held a gain of about 1 meg of file space. I've not been able to notice anything else that's different than my original Sprint software.

How do youlike your Sprint 8830? And be honest have you had any other dealings with customer service? Long hold times?

I really like the 8830, customer service is like playing the lottery at times. Sometimes you get a knowledgeable rep who knows how to help you, many times you don't.

I've used Nextel BB's up until this one, so I like the speed increase for data. The built in spell checker is really nice. You can set it to check emails before sending. This is my first BB with a built in GPS, so that's really coming in handy. Don't even get me started on the trackball (once you go trackball, there's no going back to the jog wheel)!

Being able to use a storage card comes in handy when I'm away from the office. The 320 x 240 sized screen is much easier on my eyes than my 7100i was.

I do find myself somewhat jealous of the T-Mobile users who will be able to use wi-fi connections in the near future; Sprint shouldn't be too many years behind on that!

I don't have an 8830 but you should be fine. An 8830 is an 8830 (like an 8800 is an 8800, an 8700 is an 8700, etc etc).

For sure; other than the increased file space I don't see anything different. Some Verizon users on another BB Forum made comments like reduced ring tone volume, or larger fonts on the menus, but I haven't seen any of that. I'm more likely to miss a new feature that discover one!

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com) I'm using a 8830 with Sprint and really like that they don't disable the GPS and that the SIM is unlocked. Well now Verzion has unlocked their SIM also with the new update. Overall its service but like others say they need to improve the customer service.

    Hi....

The AT&T 8800 does not have spell checker. Let me get out my sponge, the drool is starting! A spell checker on the 8830!!! Wow. I use a free one that I setup on my website and it works on the 8800 just fine... At&T/Cingular has stated that future releases of the 8800 will have the spell check like the Curve model. I am an ex Nextel 7520 BB user. I miss the walkie-talkie sometimes esp. when we get fast at work but other than that, I am very happy with the 8800.

    Cheers....

    H.
