Question Using 8800 as a modem with Orange UK

    Hi,

I'm trying to get my 8800 working as a modem for my laptop, but any attempt to dial fails with the error:

    *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*
    Verifying username and password...

Error 718: The connection was terminated because the remote
computer did not respond in a timely manner. For further assistance,
click More Info or search Help and Support Center for this error
    number.
    *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*

The steps I've taken so far are:

    1. The laptop has a 'Standard Modem' on COM7 (AT+GMM command replies 'BlackBerry IP Modem')
    2. I've set the modem's extra initialisation commands to AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","ORANGEINTERNET","",0,0
    3. Created a new dial-up network connection using the Standard Modem from step 1, *99# as the phone number, modem compression disabled and username/password left blank.
    4. On the 8800, in Options->Adavnced Options->TCP, all 3 fiels (APN, username and password for APN) are blank.

All attempts to connect fail with the above error 718.

I'm with Orange UK using a corporate BES.

Can anyone tell me which of my settings are incorrect?

Not had chance to try & set up with my laptop yet.

Just wondered if the APN setting should also be orangeinternet & the other two fields left blank?

Re: Using 8800 as a modem with Orange UK

Have followed the guides, and tried 'orangeinternet' and 'orangewap' as the APN (thanks for your suggestions), but still no joy. I'm still getting the error 718 about 15-20 seconds after the 'Verfying username and password' prompt appears.

Does anything need to be enabled on our BES? I've seen mention in other threads that the 'IP modem' option needs to be enabled for this to work. However, we are running 'BlackBerry Manager v4.0.5.6' which doesn't appear to have this option.
