Turn off keyboard backlight for videos?

Does anyone know if there is a way to watch a video on the screen but turn off the backlight on the keyboard and trackball? The trackball glows brightly right beneath the screen, which is distracting. The option to dim the backlight affects both the screen and keyboard/trackball, which is not helpful.

The problem is that those options affect both the screen and the keyboard/trackball backlight together. I'm wondering if there is a way to leave the screen on but turn the keyboard/trackball backlight off. Maybe they can't be controlled separately.

I would like that too. I agree with mmartin, it would be really nice to be able to watch a movie without having to stare at the glowing pearl especially true in the dark.

I don't know of an option to control the trackball lighting. In the mean time using your thumb to cover it is your best workaround.

I talked to RIM support. They said the phone is capable of that but there is currently no option to do it. They suggested that I email them with the suggestion and that maybe it would be something they could implement in a firmware upgrade.
