trackball issues (i knew i hated this thing)

Well I've had the 8800 for a few months now without much trouble. Well last night I was getting ready for bed and wanted to check my emails one more time but I couldn't track over to my messages icon. My trackball would only scroll up and down. Left and right was completely unresponsive! Unfortunatly I got my phone second hand and I'm not sure if I have anu warrenty coverage. S please if anyone else had this issue and came up with a fix, please let me know!

This is a common issue that happens especially if you keep the BB in the pocket. (lint and all) Check your apps and see if there is META messaging in the list b/c it can cause issues. If not you may want to take a look at this thread http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com..._pictures.html it is at your own risk but if it is lint gumming up the works this is about the only way to get it out. Worse comes to worse and you break the trackball assembly you can buy another one online for 55 bucks or so.

Quick question...how do I check my apps if I can't scroll over to the options icon? Are there any other ways around this?

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

I just put my lips real close to the track ball and blow really hard....seems to work when it gets stuck.

Yeah take a look of the desktop manager application loader. Most if not all the apps will be listed there. If METAmessaging is there it will show up on the DM.

Re: trackball issues (i knew i hated this thing)

RIM has posted a solution, basically #1 below, but I can't find it. I do not recommend taking the trackball apart.

    Three options to clean:

    1. Press and hold the ball down and roll in all directions, particularly the direction that is causing the problem. This should clear the lint/trash/whatever.

    2. Blow some canned/comressed air around the ball while pressing it down.

    3. Dip a Q-tip in alcohol and clean the ball, pressing down while doing so. This will get oil off of it.

And tip #1 - as a previous poster said, DO NOT carry it in your pocket.

Battery pull will only fix it if it is electrical. If it is lint or dirt related, I can't see how pulling the battery would fix it. Maybe you jarred it lose when you took the cover off and battery out.
