you have that reversed. The OS is 4.2.1.74 and the DM file is 421_b017 not sure you need to upgrade unless you're having trouble. Never a bad idea when doing the OS to upgrade the DM as well though. avoids trouble syncing

Re: tmo download of desktop manager

I always get the Desktop Manager from BB.com and then use the OS from the carrier. If they have released a new DM then there is probably a bug fix or getting ready for new device / OS compatiblity. These are not updated all that often, so it is usually worth your while to update when you can. Of course this is my opnion and YMMV.

It's generally a better idea to get DM from Blackberry.com as it always has the latest version. DM is the same for all BB's so you don't need to get it from your carrier.

Re: tmo download of desktop manager

well the desktop manager that came on the cd rom does not recognize the 8800, when launching the app'n loader

I got put thru to RIM this time and someone there understood desktop manager and told me why I needed the phone OS installed on the manager as well.

    TMo didnt know that...

so desktop manager app loader works now

    thanks
